First Frost of the autumn/winter and switched on the heated screen to clear the ice .... passenger side cleared it in seconds and the driver side nothing.

I know they are two different circuits so checked the fuse F25 in the big box under bonnet but it looks ok. I took it out and refitted it anyhow but there was no change.

The screen looks to be clear of dings /chips that might damage the elements.

Any thoughts?

2.5 V6 petrol

Thanks

Stuart

Mine only clears on the drivers side, but in a rather narrow strip.  As yourself have checked the fuse and all good, I believe they are on two separate relays both situated in the front fuse box and the connections are in the A-pillars.

Pretty sure to access the connectors in the A-Pillars the air-bags need to be disabled?  Is this best by disconnecting the battery?  Not sure how easy they are to access by getting the trim off without breaking something.

Thanks Gary, Ill take a little look to see if there's anything obvious.

Hi Stuart

As it was frosty this morning I took the opportunity to swap the relays over in the fuse box, the result was still the same so that eliminated those.  So next up is the connections behind the A-pillar I think?

Where in Suffolk are you?

Gary M.

If, as believe, my screen's elements have failed - driver's side partially clearing passenger side nothing at all - then a new screen seems the only option.  New ones are in the order of £500 without VAT and fitting, however those nice people at Autoscreen have quoted me some £430 all inclusive.  Now I rarely use it and none of my other vehicles have it installed but I am a stickler for things to be working and right, so might bite the bullet.

Hi

I'd just claim for the screen , for just the cost of the excess

if it were cracked , just phone autoglass and get it done, that what you pay insurance for

cheers

Joe

Haven't got around to the A pillars yet.

I'm 10 miles south of Norwich. Spoke to some one yesterday who suggested that even though the screen looks to be OK the elements do fail. Real pity as the screen looks Crystal clear apart from one small stone chip....which may well be the culprit.

Thanks to all for the advice and help.

I did think about the insurance route but the screen is perfect.  I'm having it checked on Friday, it may be something very simple and inexpensive, sadly I'm not that lucky.

Will let folks know.

Stu I'm a little further south in Stowmarket.  Very famous now as as Guy Martin did his track laying vehicle test for the WWI tank replica at the Scania depot.

Whilst it was in for a wax oil the screen was checked and no surprise the heating elements are shot, awaiting a price for a replacement.

Hi Gary, i hope you get it sorted soon and its a cheapish fix too. My passenger side is soooo useful ...for the passenger that is:)

Thanks for keeping us posted btw.

Im putting this on the back burner for now as a few other things to sort first. Like - I bought a diagnostics unit (I car soft I9300) suited to this model (i was told) and it turns out after linking it up it doesn't fully work with this model (2004 2.5 v6). I then contacted the Manufacturer who said.... i need a different one...Grrr.          Tbh for the price i paid (£100) i should have just gone down the route of a IDS/SDD cable (at £100) and used my old laptop. Grrr.  You live and learn.

I also have to consider that the rear rumble which i thought was the wheel bearings or diff (and had since bought replacements) could actually be the torque converter. I have read various posts on forums/chatted to other owners,  and it seems that im not alone on this. So gearbox out.  I'll probably start a post on this soon.

Seems as if you have a few more issues to solve Stu.  My local garage have given me a price of £300 fitted, somewhat less than AutoGlass, so I'll probably go for it.

Let us know how you get on with the work on the car.

Well got round to getting it replaced for the princely sum of £230ish, so not too bad.  Did have a slight problem with the wipers not clearing the screen but now solved.  Clears the screen a treat.

Result.

Well done Gary for getting it sorted. Did you notice any very obvious issues with the old screen? I haven't done anything else as yet on that although i had a spare 30 mins so took the o/s sill cover off to have a look/apply a waxoyle application...and all in order im pleased to say ....n/s is the next job. Im still sorting the diagnostics side of things first. Thanks to Forum moderator - Raistlin (Paul) i am making progress for help with the software. Currently trying to solve the XP partition matter. Grrr

On the day I took it in I only had around 4-5 inches of cleared screen on the drivers side, nothing cleared on the rest at all.  Now it all clears a treat, to be honest I don't think it worked from the day I had it but I never noticed as it was the late summer when I bought it.

Best of luck with sorting out the issues with your car.
