Dear all, ...So i was driving around yesterday and all of a sudden the car starts to growl loudishly suggesting  to me that the exhaust was off.

Sure enough a quick look below and yes it has broken away at the front of the back box off side - rusted it seems.

Question is do i just replace it (breakers have a few for £35 plus post) or should i consider a straight through piece from somewhere?

2.5 V6. petrol

Thanks a lot

Stuart

hi

It depends how loud you want it,

if you like it nice and quiet, leave it alone,

unfortunately the V6 does make the same noise as the V8, so with rear silencer deletes its quite loud and does drone on

used ones are the cheapest if you find a good pair

stainless ones will set you back about £300 to £500, depending on what make you go for

either will offer you no extra performance

cheers

Joe

Hi Stuart,

Can't imagine the 2.5 will be any or much quieter than the 3.0, so a straight though pipe is not an option. Prior to fitting my stainless ones, I fired her up with no rear boxes on and the noise was quite outrageous, very loud indeed!

Mine has felt livelier since going for the straight through stainless, but whether this would be reflected in an actual dyno increase I don't know. I certainly saved c30kg by dumping the enormous, over baffled stock systems, but unless you have c£400 to throw at this, your best bet is probably the breakers. I have my old boxes, but not great nick and a logistical issue to get to you.

Hope this helps, Russ :xmas:

Thanks Joe and Russ. I have made contact with the breakers and if we can agree price (currently 35 plus 15 shipping)  then a replacement is what ill get.

Im doing the one atm.

What i have found is that the radio is good at drowning out what has become a daytime racket!

Ill keep you posted.

Thanks all....Job done and normal sound is resumed. I couldn't have picked a wetter day so cleared some room in the garage and in she went. Once the water on the car had drained away / mopped up....to get the old one off proved a little tricky but the replacement is on... and all is good..
