Hi all,

I am new to the forum and I am looking for some advice about buying myself a second hand XF. I am currently looking at the 3.0l diesel luxury version, and have found a few around the 2010 year that are ticking all the boxes. I just wanted to know if there is anything I should be particularly weary of when i get to the point of going to view and take for a test drive. Also, I would be using it for my commute which is about 10 miles into the City and was wondering if the DPF issues mentioned in some of the threads would be a problem over this kind of distance?

Thanks in advance for any help or tips!

Hi Kris.....welcome to the Club

I would probably advise that unless your commute mostly involves extra-urban driving then the DPF will more than likely suffer.

Otherwise, regular blasts up the motorway at the weekend may keep it clear.

Good luck with your search

Thanks Trevor. I have heard that could be a potential issue. I think I’d be more than happy to take it for a wee blast at weekends anyway so hoping it’s not a problem. Still trawling through websites trying to find one that suits. It seems that there are a lot of options at each trim level so trying to find one that covers all the little things I’m looking for. I’ll be sure to update this thread when I find one!!

Welcome to the club, Kris.

The DPF and the EGR valves are there for a purpose, and they do appear to do their job.  But like all mechanical parts they need some attention. My s type 2.7Diesel has sometimes had  sticky EGR valves which can be cured by a blast on faster roads, but I have never had a DPF problem as i make sure there is a longer run once a month or so, just over 40 mph  for 20 minutes will do the job.

I also use Shell V power plus a ship of a Millers additive to keep the DPF in order,

Regards,

Peter.

Thanks Peter! Apologies for the delay in getting back to you there... but the good news is I now own my very own Jaguar XF. I went for the 3.0. D version. Only had it about 3 days but so far I am loving it!!
