I am leasing a Jaguar F-Pace on a 4 year "privilege" deal.

The standard warranty is for 3 years.

I have been quoted for an extended warranty for about £750 for the 4th year

Is this worth it?

I'm tempted to do without and take the risk

I'm with Ron on this one. If you decide to keep the car after 3 years you can get a warranty policy from any number of providers these days.

Besides that I am of the view that dealers make way too much from the financial products they move alongside the cars - case in point is the debate about whether Porsche is a car manufacturer or financial services company - they make more out the latter than the former; but that may be because most Porsche drivers are a few spanners short of the full set.

Entirely agree with both R2E and Cubist.........MOH once had an extended warranty on a Rover 825 KV6; when the engine blew, the warranty proved to be worth as much as the Andrex it was printed on.

By the way, we have lots of surplus spanners.............do we see a new business opportunity to launch in Porsche events........."Spanners R us".   Probably go the same way as Toys R Us.

By the way, ref another thread....MOH did once attend a speed awareness course (48 in a 40) a couple of years ago.  Was definitely aware of being on the course.   Found it rather quaint after a past life where speed was of the essence........Parliament Square to Northolt in 18 minutes, anyone?"

As always, happy growling

Hopefully that was in the pre-decimalisation days...my mate Mark (see Hillman Imp reminiscences) would say that the 5p piece is too small.

Getting back on topic, I was offered an extended warranty or something similar on my s type.  It would have cost me over £2500 over 5 years and all I have needed to spend during that time is £135 to have a new water pump fitted.

I would suggest that the AA and probably the RAC would be a much cheaper bet for around £50 a year.

Regards,

Peter.

P.S,   They would not know what "Spanners R Us" would mean in Dudley.  "Spanners Am We" would be much better.

And don't speak to me about speed awareness courses! I have rarely experienced such nonsense and outright lies in their attempts to justify what are at best dreamed up arbitrary values. The speed limit is the law, however stupid, break it at your peril. End of.

Well said, Ron!     If our X150 (or the S-type, or even the XJS took as long to stop as the aforementioned Morris Minor [although on MOH's speed awareness course, the Morris Minor had morphed into a Ford Anglia]) we should be having to take advantage of the extended warranties that we don't have.

Parliament Square to Northolt was, in fact, after decimalisation......mid-90s to be precise......there's hairy.

asking the bus conductor for a "Thwupenny  one"

Yes, we both remember such events..........the conductor, we believe, is now out on remand after attempting to give us a thwupenny one, whereupon we got off at the next stop.

Bostin!    Right up there with the Black Country gentleman on our JLR Classic visit (complete with bobble hat) who, upon seeing a red Land-Rover with blue lights fitted, exclaimed "Is that one there a foir enjin?".        Tarra Enoch

As always, happy growling
