Having a bit of a problem with my old girl  a 2000 S type 3L V6  immaculate with only 48k on it but I was having a problem where the car would stutter under acceleration sometimes then it started to just cut out completely but start again immediately.

Took it into a trusted garage who tell me its the potentiometer that is faulty     this is a new one on me im afraid

I know where and what the Throttle position sensor is but not a clue about the potentiometer   is this the same thing/

also he says he is having trouble getting parts  Dont want to lose this lovely to something so small sounding  any help appreciated

 

     

TPS Jaguar fits onto the manifold body. Easiest thing ever to change and yes it is a potentiometer.

Tried two other TPS units but car still does same thing

code says TPS fault 

surely 3 units can’t be at fault 

fitted a new battery as well

there are three parts to the throttle linkage and all are basically potentiometers first is the throttle pedal which sends the signal to the throttle body which has another potentiometer to read the signal sent by the throttle pedal and moves accordingly all the TPS does is check that the two signals are the same so if you have changed the TPS the fault must be in the pedal or the throttle body replacing the pedal can be done quite cheaply as they are readily available on line  if changing this does not fix the problem then it's going to be the throttle body  but before doing any of this remove the air intake pipe where it goes into the throttle and spray carb cleaner into the body and clean it as best you can sometimes a build up of gunge can stop the butterfly opening correctly and so the TPS reds that the butterfly isn't moving correctly and puts up the warning
