2000 s-type gearbox fault

Featured Replies

Hi there first time user and am in need of some good advice.

I have a s-type 3.0 year 2000

i know it’s old but it’s only done 70000 miles and has full service history, I was out during it yesterday when a warning appeared telling me there was a gearbox fault and the engine management light came on, driving it there’s is no problem engaging  park reverse drive and it runs through 1st second and third like it was new but it will not select a higher gear

please any advice would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to the club, Chris.

I assume you have an automatic gearbox with  5 speeds.  Can you try using the manual gear change and see if it will go to 4th and 5th gears.  It is just a gamble!

I had exactly the opposite problem to you.  I was using the manual gear change too much, going into 3rd gear when going downhill.  I had to stay in automatic to get it working properly again.

Regards,

Peter.

Thanks for the welcome peter

i did try this but to no avail, as I say the gear change from park to drive then 1st 2nd and third is so smooth but then all of a sudden I’m doing 50mph at 4000 revs I’m totally baffled as in previous autos I’ve had when the gearbox is going it’s selection of gear that is the issue
