F pace engine seized

Featured Replies

Help…F pace 44k miles 2017. Juddered for 10 secs then engine died. Apparently it is seized and needs £10k to replace. Oil level fine, no warning lights or issues beforehand just managed to freewheel to side of the road.

Recovered to Jaguar garage who have taken a week (& charged £160 for diagnostic), ‘compression problems and bits of metal in oil’ it’s always fully serviced by dealer who have now referred it to manufacturers.

Trying to decide what to do next;

1) pay for (hopefully part of) it and repair

2) trade in as is and lease while the whole diesel/petrol/electric power debate rolls out

what would you do?

Thanks

Sharon

Apologies if this update is posted incorrectly, I cannot discover how to update my original post.

The dealer has today offered 80% contribution towards the replacement today which makes repair rather than replace a more viable option. Albeit we will have been without a car for a month meanwhile.

Yes, good thought although we requested that, none available for 3 weeks and we are loathe to lose any goodwill in the interim.

I had similar issue on my 2017 F-Pace last week, dealer got me 80% from JLR. I called them and argued then demanded to speak to a manager and he came back and said they will pay 100%, the diagnostic was also covered in this.
I quoted consumer rights act of 2015, sold faulty goods and told them they have 1 opportunity to repair or replace and must do so without cost to me, in a reasonable time-frame and with out causing un-necessary inconvenience. They offered a hire car if the dealer did not have a loan car. I should get my car back next tues with brand new turbo, engine and DPF fitted.

Hi, Did you buy your F pace from a  Jaguar dealer . Just wondering  as i bought mine from a non  JLR  dealer/ No problem so  far .. Thanks

  • 4 months later...

My 2019 f-pace engine has seized with no prior warning lights or alerts. This seems to a rather too common problem to be attributed to some type of user fault alone, as I and many others I am finding who have maintained their f-pace properly are having engine seize.

Considering possibility of class-action litigation in USA - if any one is interested or has information regarding this issue please reply or contact.

2017 FP 2.0 D at 120,000 km knocking sound

Car runs fine, no loss of power, brought to JLR Dealer , I told them there is serious engine blow by as I just change the oil , plus the oil turns black like tar after two weeks of changing the oil with their specified and bought from dealership oil …they charged me three hours to diagnose, They said timing chain  job needed $13000 CDN

I RELUCTANTLY PAID $10,000(Discount given)

10,000 km later, engine stalled on freeway,

Had it towed to same dealership, they told me their master technician which was schooled in the UK Will look at it

The next day they called me and told me there is no charge for the diagnostics. Our master technician found the problem immediately!

The battery and starter cable running from the rear battery on the outside of the car underneath was completely corroded and needs to be changed $2000

I said go ahead

One month later, they called me this morning. They told me we changed the cables, but your engine is seized!

I said, according to your master technician, he found the problem immediately It was the battery cables?

It takes five minutes to check if an engine or motor is seized

No, the car is worth $30,000 but they want another $40,000 for a new motor

Oil pump failure, they determined

This car has a fuel cut off if low oil  pressure is detected, therefore would and should have

Stalled to avoid catastrophic engine failure.

I think a class action is warranted.
Basically, when they told me timing chain, it was the oil pump that was making the Noise
