changing steering wheel

changing steering wheel on my jaguar s type 05 2.7 diesel it says disconnect battery but when I do that the steering lock comes on so I cannot access the airbag studs

I just followed a Youtube video, Perfect, took less than an hour. It was a couple of years ago so I don't remember the order but one thing I did find. Make sure the horn pressure is the same on the wheel you are fitting.
