My dad has a Jaguar XF 2008, the bonnet won’t open. It’s been to a garage but they can’t find any way of getting through to the catch from underneath or anywhere else to release the catch. Has anyone had this problem and been able to rectify it. Thanks

On Rover 75 by taking out the o/s wheel liner the cables to each bonnet catch could be accessed. Do not know if you can do that on an XF but you could find another one and look under the bonnet to see how the cables run.

Hi Rebecca,

I have read that squirting wd40 on the catches holding the bonnet helps and having some one else press down on bonnet as you try to open it.

I found this may be it will help

Hope you fix it.

Kind regards,

Julie.

hi

just had a look at xf engine bay pics and it looks like a right night mare to get the bonnet open

they look similar to a S-type, but cant be accessed from underneath, would try the basics first, get someone to lean on the bonnet, front leading edge corners while someone pulls the bonnet pull

other wise looks like the only easy way in is throught the grill, as a last resort, would have to scrifice the grill t get in, on the S-types theres, security metal covers over the locks so they cant be open through the grill, first thing i removed on my S-type, makes getting in easier if cable snaps

you might be able to hook the bonnet latches through the grill, with some long rigid wire with a small hook on the end

if your in the AA you could try them, It would not cost anything and they might of come accross it before

there really in a awkward place on the xf, pic below

hope you get it sorted

cheers

Joe

As JoeDotCom says...It's a nightmare.

You can read through this thread as it offers some, but not very pretty, options.

I'm not sure why the poster who used the angle grinder to access the pins didn't use a hole saw and install bonnet closure pins used on race cars.

It certainly would've made for a cleaner finish
