Have never owned a Dash Camera, so therefore never used one either.

Pleased to receive recommendations on what to buy for use in my 2005 S Type. Feel I should invest in one with how often their footage is used these days as proof in accident claims et c. Will be wanting something that is comprehensive (whatever that is in a Dash Cam), but at the same time easy to understand and use.

Many Thanks and Best Wishes, Regards, John

Hi John

I can highly recommend any of the NextBase dashcam range - your choice is pretty much governed by how much you want to spend.

May also be worth getting the hard-wire power kit for it as it does away with dangling leads permanently plugged into your cigarette lighter

Many thanks. I will look into that male.

I would think long and hard before installing one of these gizmos. We all make mistakes sometimes and rarely do they prevent an insurance increase if you have an accident.

Worst of all, they are just as likely to be used against YOU as the other person in an accident.......I have even know the cops prosecute BOTH people involved in an accident.

I would not want one unless it had an "instant delete" button or a memory card mounted externally so that it could be rapidly removed and destroyed.

Mike,

A very fair point being made about the fact that we can, all of us, make mistakes at times. However you do say that "rarely do they prevent an insurance increase if you have an accident."

I find that a very interesting point and wonder where you have found the evidence of that fact, or is that may be just an opinion. Facts would be good and would inevitably impact on my decision to buy a camera or not.

Hi John,

Dash cam evidence MAY prove that you were not at fault and protect your NCB (or you may have a "protected" NCB) but on several occasions recently family and friends have kept their NCB, but found that their new years premium has increased because they have had to report an "incident", even in one case, to their car while parked.

Obviously your choice, but I would find a better use for your money.

Regards Mike

Hi.

Just to let you know a number of our insurance schemes offer premium discounts off car insurance for the fitment of a HD dash cam.

Dan.

Hi all , with insurance if you have protected ncd . it is the amount of ncd (years) that is protected not the price . i.e the price will go up but the same amount of ncd will be applied to that price if you have it protected. Found this out after someone damaged my car while it was parked last year and drove off.

Dash cam nextbase 522 with rear cam as well. this is a relly good set up as even when you are not ib the car it is able to look after it. when someone hits your car it turns on so hopefully you can get a reg number.

That was very much my understanding Mark............Your insurer might use it to recover some of their costs but it will not protect you from a post accident increase in premium and our Uniformed Tax Collectors are just as likely to use it against you as the other vehicle in a ding.

They are not the "silver bullet" that many believe they are.
