I have a 2020 XF sport brake.  Last August, the boot cover got stuck in the 'up' position.  Also I couldn't remove it from the housing, rendering the sport brake pretty useless.

Long story short, today the garage, finally agreed to replace it with a new one.  It worked, whilst it was in the garage.  I left the garage at 15:00, have come home and just been to put something in the boot and it is once again stuck in the 'up' position.

It can't be the boot cover, but I am wondering if it is the mechanism in the car that is at fault.

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

Not sure I understand the term "boot cover". Do you mean the tailgate? Or the fabric cover attached to the beam behind the rear seats which can be pulled and secured to cover the boot contents?

It is the fabric cover that rises when you open the tailgate, it gets stuck when you open the tailgate and simply won't return when you close the tailgate.

The garage finally replaced it last week, but it broke again, when I got home.  However I did manage to get into the boot from the back seat and managed to remove it.  So, it isn't the fabric cover that is the problem (as the garage said), bur there is something wrong with the springs that push the the cover up when the tailgate is closed.

thank you for your reply.
