2005 XJ8L: passenger front window will open but when you try to close it goes up maybe only 2cm then stops and won’t go again.

When I disconnect the battery, then reconnect, it will go up again, same as last time. If I accidentally forget and open the window, I will need to get in and out of the car a dozen times disconnecting and reconnecting the battery as I slowly inch the window closed.

tried replacing driver’s side window and mirror control unit, but replacement is doing the same.

Any ideas what I should do?

When my X350 (and XFR) suffered from a similar problem, I ended up replacing the window regulator / motor assembly and this cured the problem.

About £60 from Ebay I think, wasn't a difficult job.

as above, window motor/regulator need replacing, there a window module built into the motor.
