DVD for Navegación

Featured Replies

Hi all....bought a S/H 2006 2.7 S Type with a useless DVD for the navigation (looks like an'iffy' copy and is badly scratched and shows up on the screen as 'DVD not Recognisable' when placed in the Boot reader or CD player. Question, can anybody advise me if this is most likely due to a damaged?......Best replacement vendor?....and what I need  to ask for exactly?  Many Thanks.

I played with the Laser levels but although it did work for an hour oe so the quality/data of the latest map from 2012 (480 pixel screen) was terrible. I removed the DVD part completely and use Igo or tomtom on other devices.

There is a way to build an Android system for the centre display but it is very complicated for most people and would cost about 500E. Note Build, That is what you have to do if you want a modern updateable nav system with all your jag steering wheel and screen controls. I think there is a guy who sells them but I have no details.

Many thanks.....

Hi

You can get a new navigation DVD off ebay, last ones were 2012, not sure about your country

but if you google it there should be plenty of places that sell them

Also if you have the touch screen, which is usually standard with the navigation, you cannot remove the Nav DVD unit in the boot, because the picture for the touch screen is generated by the Nav dvd unit in the boot, so removing it will render the touch screen useless, no climate control, no cd changer, no phone.

cheers

I removed from the Nav DVD unit in the boot unit just the DVD player mechanical components including the ribbon cable and the central screen works perfectly. I had thought maybe it was possible to replace it with a memory stick. I still have all functionality except the nav system.

You used to be able to get a new Laser module and / or get the Actual DVD player mechanics fitted with a new Laser unit for about a hundred pounds. I was put off by the quality of the map that I saw when I did get it working. Already today TomTom here in Spain is not very good, I have Carminat in my Renault and it has the latest update but there are still many minor roads missing. A map from 12 years will lead to a lot of frustration.

BTW I can still choose Jaguar or daimler on start up screen.

If the nav dvd unit is still plugged in your touch screen will still work, unplug it and the touch screen will stop working, there was a person selling new lasers on ebay, you can still get used nac dvd units as well, getting one of the newer ones off a 2007/2008 car , most of these still work ok.

I dont use mine anymore, I upgraded to Jagdroid and still use my ACM most to play MP3's, which is my favorite source of music

cheers

I couldn't remember the name before, "JagDroid" is the way to go with all its latest whistles and bells it's gone a long way from the first versions that I saw a few years ago. Just had a look and it seems excellent.

Hi everybody...thanks for all the advice...have just tried out brand new DVD and have the same result ' DVD is not recognised as a navigation format'...... My guess is the DVD reader in the boot is the problem.....Any further ideas? anybody...Thanks.

Go Jagdroid, who wants a crappy  12 year old map anyway. Yes, yourLaser reader is stuffed, could just be dust on the lens etc or the laser power has gone down with old age. I removed just the laser / transport mechanism from inside the Nav unit. I get no messages about problems with the nav unit etc.

Thanks Mike....Would love to go JagDroid route but at over 600 quid seems expensive compared with value of car today, living on a pension, and how much do I use the Nav. itself. Will try as you suggest, cleaning dust on lens etc. If not the problem then maybe S/H  Nav. unit that is guaranteed in working order.  Many thanks for your help and other members for theirs. Always keen to hear any other suggestions.

Be warned though that the maps are way out of date and resolution of the screen is 640x480 or worse.

We use a sort of smart phone holder which sort of sticky underneath slightly modified to hold a 6/7 inch navigator, TomTom or Igo. It needed modding ( A piece of wire and an elastic band) to stop the nav unit falling off under acceleration.  The mount works fine here in Spain with the heat etc

Thanks....food for thought indeed. Have used my android Nokia and Google maps now and again with ok results...no modding, no cables etc.
