Hi

You need to get it plugged in to read the fault codes

this will tell you where the problem is, could be something as simple as a abs sensor, which can cause the faults you describe

cheers

Joe

Hi
Hope you've managed to get this fixed but just a couple of ideas

I have an old 2000 S-type that occasionally throws a gearbox fault. I suspect mine is just old, needs a gearbox service. Is it stiff or jerky when you put it in drive and does it get better when it warms up? Could be we have a similar problem there - old age and poor maintenance. Haven't looked into it yet but suspect it could get expensive

As for the engine light, buy an OBD scanner. You can get cheapies off Ebay or Amazon for under 20 quid. Sadly my old generic one isn't that good and keeps telling me there's nothing wrong despite the fact that I know my old wreck needs new plugs and coil packs.

You never know. From my  limited experience your two faults could be related.
