Hey all,

so I’m new on here and wanted to help out a non car enthusiast mate, (but he has owned a a jag XK from new, and has put 215,000 kms on it). I’m not a jag driver (M2 current ride) - but I do have a soft spot for F Types, and potentially thinking of switching to one in future.

so I don’t have too much details yet, but essentially he’s having engine issues (causing a spark plug to fly out of the engine).

Essentially he wants to keep the car (sentimental value) but I think the engines not being too reliable at mo.

whats the best course of action?

I suggested a full rebuild but I don’t know anything about the 4.2 litre v8s? Are they worth rebuilding and could they last another 100-200k with a proper rebuild?

or could he find a low mileage engine transplant and where’s the best place to source one?

OR is there another alternative I’m not think of (and no that’s doesn’t involve buying a new car)

what cost could a complete rebuild be at? And who would be a reputable garage (ideally down south) to fix this.
