Jaguar XFS 2017MY SIM card connectivity

Featured Replies

Hi all, just picked up a second hand XF S, it has in control pro, and the SIM card slot. I put in a Vodafone sim I had and it connects but doesn’t connect to 3G or 4G, just E. I then tried putting in 3 sim from my work phone. That didn’t connect at all! (That being said, it got kind of stuck in the slot and I had to pull the adapter out with pliers. I put the Vodafone sim back in and it connects again, but only to E. So the web browsers or anything internet related won’t work.

I have checked all the settings under mobile data in the car, roaming in on, Mobile data is on, manually put in the APN just to make sure, still nothing.

Is it worth buying a brand new data only sim and trying again? Any advice? Cheers!

Hi Bryn,

I also have a ‘17 XF-S and have a Vodafone SIM in its slot. What I’ve found is that it connects fine, but  after the car has been switched off for a while (wife in the shops, etc.!) it annoyingly disconnects. Could this relate to your situation?

Cheers,
Jon

You can purchase data only SIM on places like Amazon, they come with a data limit and a time limit, i.e. if the data allowance is unused after the set time elapses, then the SIM needs to be replaced.

Alternatively, you can purchase a data only SIM and Plan from sites like UBIGI, where you pay a monthly subscription for a set data limit. Suggest the latter as more cost effective. Select a low data limit plan and then keep an eye on usage via the App. If you find you are using more that the allowance, you can always up the plan.

As an example, I have a 500MB monthly renewing plan in my car and the only time I run over the 500MB is when we are away on continental holiday - the I get an additional one-off top up plan.

Hey Jon,

Thanks for reaching out! I don’t have any problem connecting, but I can’t get anything more than E (edge) connection, it never connects to 3G or 4G. Does your Vodafone sim come up as 3G or 4G on the display unit?

Cheers

Thanks for all the replies. Do we know if the system supports 4G data? I assume jt would, but I’m seeing a lot of other places only mentioning 3G (not to be confused with the network 3) and if so, is that why I can only get E as 3G is now switched off

Hi Bryn,

Mine is a Vodafone 4G SIM, it shows up as such, but I'm unsure whether it's data only or not (most likely it is!). I went with Vodafone since our phones are on Vodafone SIMs so it keeps billing simple.

Good luck!

Now it won’t even read the SIM card, just comes up with the emblem in the top

right corner, any suggestions? I tried manually setting the Vodafone APN as well, but now I can’t even get to that setting

4g capability in jags came with 2018 if not 2019 models (can't remember). untill then it's 3g only. to overcome this, i bought 4g wifi dongle and connect car to that. yuo can get 5g wigi dongles as well.

sim card needs to be data only. i had smarty sim before switching to wifi dongle and worked a treat

Do you remember what dongle you used?

Also, does the fact the car is touch pro make a difference? I read online touch pro should be 4G

no it doesnt. i've got pro and it's 3g. as mentioned earlier, 4g was implemented from 2018 or 2019 models. 2017 like yours has 3g for sure.

and you can't make it 4g - thought about it to just swap module, but it won't work as 4g one has different architecture to 3g module and it simply won't talk to the car
