Hi all. Newbie owner here.

Picked the motor up yesterday 2.1 V6 and I noticed it has a mini disc player, anyone know if it's just a matter of a straight swap for a CD based unit?

If it is a single DIN unit then should be straight forward, you might be able to use the same harness, otherwise you'll need to have a new harness made up

Thanks Steve but excuse me if I appear a bit dim but what do you mean by DIN ?? I have also noticed that there is a CD option button next to the MDisc button, does this mean it will support a changer as well? Sorry for all the questions I literally know nothing about the Jaguar X Type!

Hi Mate

DIN stands for "Deutsches Institut für Normung" It is the standard size for car audio systems, so a normal stero is a single DIN and a double size system is double DIN.

Do you have a picture of it?

I'll post one tonight Steve, its the standard set up from new though not an after market one.

Here you go. Any info whether it would be better to replace the head unit with a cd one or whether it would be better to add a multichanger.

I think I would rather change the head unit just so you can change cd's on the go, as it were.post-528-0-14705500-1308774299_thumb.jpgpost-528-0-29669700-1308774312_thumb.jpg

Yes Steve I do, I'd like to keep it as original as possible, I'm a bit weird like that.

i dont blame you, 3rd party equipment will involve a faceplate which never looks nice, so sticking standard is best, epsecially when coming to selling.

Do you have a disc changer in the car?

I spent Sunday afternoon cleaning and hoovering in every nook and cranny and haven't come across anything that looks like one Steve, I assumed they would have mounted it in the boot.

But then who on earth specifies a mini disc over a cd player in 2002?!!

  • 1 year later...

Ive just bought a sport which has mini disc and multichanger. It does seem a little pointless. I dont think ive ever seen a mini disc anyway. Great car though lovin it
