x-type Central locking problem.

Hi Everyone :)

I have been reading some threads regarding central locking (not nessecerally x-type,but thats what I have) There seems to be quite alot of problems with central locking so I thought I would add mine.

If anyone has any ideas or sollutions that would be just great :D

I bought my 51 plate 2.5 manual x-type in june and it only had one key which is very worn and can hardly see the icons on the buttons. Also I have to push the buttons down really hard for it to work. I dont think its the battery because it works from about 10 feet away,I think perhaps its been used so much its just worn out!! I thought of buying another key and programing it but if i do that and it dosn't program will it mess up my original key program so I cant use the car at all???

As for the central locking, it does work but the indicators dont flash,on lock or unlock. Also,I thought the car was meant to lock itself when you get over 5mph. That dosn't work either. I also noticed that the locking padel on the inside of the drivers door would not push in to lock the car but the passenger side does. Recently, the drivers side padel has started to work when it feels like it, and sometimes using the fob it locks all doors and boot as it should (but no indicator flash) and sometimes the drivers door wont lock so I have to use the key, and sometimes when it is all locked and I press unlock, it all unlocks except for the drivers door  Also when I press the panic button the headlights come on but there is no alarm.

I was reading the owners manual about changing the locking from double locking to single locking and vice versa, says you have to hold down the lock and unlock buttons at the same time, I did that as an experiment, and the indicators flashed twice but because I have to push down on the buttons so hard, its difficult to know which phase ime in :(

Sorry for writing a book here but I just wanted to explain it as best I could.

One last thing is,as I said,I have to push the buttons really hard but I still have to wait a couple of seconds for anything to happen.

As I said earlier, any ideas or sollutions will be really appreciated.

"Thought" would Jaguar be able to put it on a diagnostics machine and change its program???

Many Thanks.

Bringe.
