I've a very sick S type sitting in front of my house. Appears that a blocked DPF backed things up, damaged piston rings and result was diesel in the engine oil. Jag main dealer got bil up to almost £10k so decided to call it a day. It's an 07 Sports version with 119,000 miles on the clock, almost all motorway driving. Anyone else had a similar problem an any cheapre solutions??

you were unfortunate. had same issue with dpf they are a curse. no warning light appears to tell you that filter is filling up. cheapest option if you would have caught it earlier was to have dpf removed and remapped.

hi pat sorry to hear that, marks right those dpf filters are probs waiting to happen ,not just to jaguars but all the other lot as well glad mines petrol. our daily runabout an insignia i opted for petrol as its only used for shopping , doctors ect. just beacuse of dpf problems in cars today.

I don't know if this has been your issue but my other car is a Nissan diesel with DPF and I remember the dealer telling me that they are not good for short journeys all the time as they don't get hot enough to clear and will get clogged.  The advice I got and has served me well for years is do a 30 min motorway run at 60mph at least once a month and that should clear it out.  My Nissan is used by the wife on very short journeys most of the time but every couple of weeks we go to Brighton in it, we have never had a problem with the DPF.  If you can't do the regular clear out run don't have a diesel was the advice I got.

Removing the DPF is now an automatic MOT fail.  Legislation was brought in in February 2014.
