HI John, Battery is only a month or so old, always supports stop/start, so I guess that isn't the problem and the starter is no slower than when the engine is warmed up. The struggle to start is just for the first start from cold if the ambient temperature is at or close to freezing. Thanks for your help, Jon

Hi All, My XF-S doesn't like starting when it's cold outside! It cranks for a while and eventually runs, but for a few seconds, it's a bit rough. I'm convinced it's an issue with the glowplugs or the glowplug control module, but my local indy dealer (where I bought it from) says that it isn't throwing any OBD codes. It seems that replacing the glowplugs on the 3.0 V6 is a bit of a mission - therefore costly, so I'm reluctant to spring for it if not essential (pensioner now!). My question is... Is it OK to put up with the starting struggles through the winter, or am I risking further grief in the future? Cheers, Jon

So... Got the battery replaced at KwikFit, £260ish! Halfords wouldn't touch it as it needed "coding". Only problem was having to reset a few settings, but not really a hassle. Now I have to remember to disable the dreaded start/stop nonesense though! J

Hi All, My 2017 XF 3.0D S nudges me most mornings, telling me the battery needs charging. After a run, all is well, for a day or so. As a result, I think I need to invest in a battery maintainer/charger, but which one? Or shall I just ignore it, as the car never actually struggles to start? Hi Ian, Welcome to the group! I've been in a similar situation - always craved an XF, but they were never on the list of company cars I had for many years (although a Golf VR6 and an Imprezza Turbo were!). So, upon giving up the work scene (and retuning a Mercedes A220), I bought an '11 reg XF-S Portfolio. Lovely car, but was becoming a money pit, so swapped it last year for a '17 reg XF-S. Even more lovely! Loaded with most available options, but I do miss the cooled seats the previous one had. I hope you enjoy your XF experience! All the best, Jon

Hi Dave, Ironically, yes - was recently hit from behind by a Range-Rover - needed a new bootlid, bumper, etc., etc. But it has never flashed since I got the car, so repairs can't be the cause? Cheers, Jon

Hi all, Thanks for the input, and thanks to Frank for raising the issue, but... My XF has a red 'dome' in the center of the top of the dashboard, which is what I believe should flash (at least, it did on my previous (2011) XF!) I know the alarm is working, even passively, since having left the car unlocked for a while, all hell broke loose when opening a door (stopped by clicking the keyfob unlock button!). I'm thinking the light/LED is the problem? Cheers, Jon

Hi Paul, I'm 67.5, retired about 3y ago, on my second XF-S after years and years of company cars. Highlights were an Impreza turbo, Golf VR6 and, back in the day A Calibra Turbo. Always wanted an XF - first was an impulse buy, a bit too old and needed work, but love it. got my current one (2017 xf-s, loaded with toys, but sadly, no cooled seats). Right now, can't think of anything I'd like to replace it with - and, as you say, certainly not electric (yet!). Let's see what the future brings! J

Hi Frank, This is something that has mystified me since I got my 2017 XF-S. Previous XF (2011) flashed as expected, I have to assume that the alarm is armed. Hopefully, some of our more knowledgeable friends on here will have some insight! Fingers crossed! Jon

Hi All, Not a huge problem, but annoying nonetheless... When I plan a route on my PC for downloading to my XF, the routing app sees may car as being in Dartford, Kent. It is, of course outside my house in Sussex! Easy enough to fix but annoying! Any ideas of how to correct it? Cheers, Jon
