The vehicle battery is probably low or on it's way out, try charging the battery. My car only gets used once or twice a week and the same would happen. Worked after charging battery or after a bit of a run out. Eventually had to replace the battery.

My 2014 XF saloon has the rear lamps on all of the time, is this normal? My car has the auto lamp function but it doesn't make any difference which position the lighting switch is in the rear lights are on all the time unless the car has just been started and not put into gear.
