S type key fob programming
N6 JMX replied to Leigh7779's topic in Jaguar Audio / Video / Electronics / Security Systems
Hi Leigh, I put "Program S-type key fob" into my search engine and came up with a detailed explanation on Jaguar Forums, see the link below. It would appear that the YOM of the car is a fundamental issue as the programming software required can be either IDS or SDD depending on the year. Check out the stuff via the link - mainly in USA. S type key fob programming
N6 JMX replied to Leigh7779's topic in Jaguar Audio / Video / Electronics / Security Systems
Hi Leigh, are you positive the new battery in the key fob is "good" and making proper contact? There have been a number of reports recently of key fob batteries being "duff" on insertion. That would be a starting point. N6 JMX -
Seeking Advice on Rattle from XF 2016's Exhaust
N6 JMX replied to Sprinkles's topic in Jaguar XF Club
Hi Jay, in that case it is more than likely that the internal baffles have been dislodged and the solution would be a new rear silencer. N6 JMX -
Hi Gary, this sounds very much like a failing battery. On these "modern" cars, the battery load is quite severe and even when shutdown, the background drain can still be high. On a 2017 car, I would suspect that the battery is still the original and, believe it or not, this could well be the source of your dah lighting up with "random" messages. If you have the ability to have the battery drop tested by a qualified auto electrician, that would be my suggested starting point. If indeed the battery is the original - would have a Jaguar sticker on it if it is - then I would bite the bullet and have it changed for a new one. If you can be assured that the battery is good, then the folks on here may be in a position to advise alternative areas of concern such as a worn reluctor ring or abs sensor. Let us know your findings. N6 JMX

As an aside, when it stalls, does it stutter to a halt like it has fuel starvation? Does it stall when sitting at tick over, or when driving? N6 JMX

Seeking Advice on Rattle from XF 2016's Exhaust
N6 JMX replied to Sprinkles's topic in Jaguar XF Club
Hi Jay, well the rearmost hanger definitely looks shot, so replacing that would be a first step I reckon. Not so sure as to why the rattling ceases when you clamp the gap in the hanger back together. Unless there is a metal to metal contact point somewhere in the same area. N6 JMX -
Hi Andrew, the service regime on a Modern XK falls into 2 categories, A and B service options and are time or mileage dependent, whichever comes first. In the notes below it is time in months / mileage. A Services: 12/15, 36/45, 60/75, 84/105, 108/135 and so on. B Services: 24/30, 48/60, 72/90, 96/120, 120/150 and so on. Some service items are time dependent and some are mileage dependent and it is quite difficult to be overly specific regarding a car that is not doing the mileage, but being serviced annually on the time element. Spark plugs are listed to be renewed at the A Service for 105k miles. Also at 105k miles, the Supercharger belt should be replaced - obviously only for the Supercharged cars. At 150k miles, the front accessory belt should be renewed. There is a caveat against the Service items above that these 3 items are specifically Mileage related and not defined by time. Generally speaking, every annual Service should see the Renewal of the Oil and oil Filter, plus Renewal of the Pollen Filter. Every second Service, the B Service, then the Brake Fluid should be renewed. Hope this helps. N6 JMX

Welcome Ellen, sounds like you have the beginnings of a "collection" there. N6 JMX

Please note that when you replace the battery, you will need to "tell the car" that a new battery has been installed. This allows the battery control module to reset the alternator charging rates. This is achieved via the OBD port and a plugged in suitable code reader, which most garages should be able to undertake. N6 JMX

Hi again Jim, My own car is an XKR Convertible and possibly one of the most photographed cars in the UK - it is in quite a rare colour scheme and always attracts attention at shows / outings. I parked on my local High Street last week when I was off for a haircut and came back an hour later with several folks standing around admiring the car. Everyone wanted to chat about it. So, the the answer to your initial question is YES, Jaguar did make a convertible version of the New XK (X-150) and the chassis is stiff enough to allow full use of the 510PS in my car. I have no intention of changing my car so next car specification is not relevant, I have exactly what I want and it is going to be growing old with me - already owned it for 12 years. There are around 10 good XK Convertibles for sale on the JEC Classifieds site at the moment and I would suggest you have a look there to see if anything catches your eye. Link is: jec.org.uk/classifieds/index.php?page=cars-for-sale&pg=1&category=1608 I live a bit too far away from you to assist in the physical purchase of a car, but if you want to PM me regarding any specific car you have an interest in, I will see what I think. I agree with the principal assertion here that the battery on the vehicle has to be suspect, followed by: 1. A corroded / suspect earth point(s). 2. A failed Starter Motor. I would not try a jump start from a slave vehicle as that may transfer issues from one to the other. Start by fully charging the existing battery using the correct charger such as a Ring Automotive Smart Charger, the version with the LCD screen that indicates the battery status when charging. A battery that can take a charge should be able to be at 90% within 12 hours of connecting up and switching on. REMEMBER you are dealing with an AGM battery so it is vital the chosen charger has that capability. As given earlier, if a "standard" charger has already been used, then the innards of the AGM battery may already be shredded. If you are not confident with battery tests, or indeed don't have access to the correct charger, then remove the battery from the car and hand it to a qualified Auto Electrician to both charge and test. You need to eliminate possible causes in an ordered manner. N6 JMX

2017 Jaguar xf crankshaft 3.0 TDV6 GEN 2 TWIN TURBO ENGINE
N6 JMX replied to taffymartin's topic in Jaguar Technical
Hi Martin, this sounds like a really bad experience and one that I am pretty sure must be quite rare as these engines are generally VERY reliable. I have heard of 300k miles on these engines, without missing a beat, so you have either been very unlucky, or something has gone truly amiss inside the engine. The fact that your car has been taken to "a reliable Jaguar Specialist" would indicate that you have not been using a main dealer for your servicing works, has that always been the case in your possession? You may want to get in touch with Jaguar Cars Customer Services, but I doubt they are going to be very sympathetic, unless you have detailed records of any works carried out, including oil specifications as used at the oil changes, any other work undertaken by you since 2018, etc. A seizure without warning, even a high temperature or a low oil light is mystifying, so not sure what to suggest further, but good luck going forward. Rain water coming in under passenger seat.
N6 JMX replied to Eddie Brzoza's topic in Jaguar Technical
If you are sure it is rain water, then it should also come in when you hose / wash the car. Have you confirmed that it only comes in due to rain? Try turning the AC off for a week and see if there is any improvement. Normally, in hot weather with the AC running, you will find a small puddle under the car when parked. Have you seen the puddle recently, or is the driveway dry under the car at all times? Do you have a sunroof? There are also drains from the sunroof surround, but I have no idea where they travel through the car, but down an A-post would seem logical, ending up near the footwell. N6 JMX -
Hi margi3, a little strange to buy a car and then immediately think of flipping it for a "profit". In my experience, "flipping" for a profit with Jaguars is a fantasy world, not one occupied by mere mortals. If you are not "in" to the car and want your money back, try selling it on but be prepared for an inevitable loss. N6 JMX

Hi Keith, Not very far as the crow flies, but a drive around to Swallows Jaguar at Rooksbridge, see link below, might be a worthwhile trip. These guys are very knowledgeable and good to deal with. https://swallows-jag.co.uk/ N6 JMX

Hi Geoff, I suspect what you are looking at is a rubber seal that has baked hard due to age, wear and heat. Putting your part number into the search engine produces multiple "hits", including OEM seals available and they all look like rubber items to me. N6 JMX

Rain water coming in under passenger seat.
N6 JMX replied to Eddie Brzoza's topic in Jaguar Technical
The problem of the blocked AC drain persists on both the earlier New XK (X-150) and on the XJ (X-350). N6 JMX -
Rain water coming in under passenger seat.
N6 JMX replied to Eddie Brzoza's topic in Jaguar Technical
Hi Eddie, sounds like you have a blocked drain from the AC system, a known problem especially in the New XK models. There is a modification to the drain that avoids future blockages. Not a big problem, but quite a task to access the drain and make the fix. N6 JMX -
Located in Chelmsford Essex is JD Classics. A little further afield is Ken Jenkins (marque specialist) trading as Carlton Autos Ltd in Worksop, Notts. N6 JMX

Hi Keith, welcome to the wonderful world of Jaguar motoring - you will enjoy it. From your spelling of "tires", I am guessing you are not in the UK, possibly North America. If so, there is a great community in Jaguar North America and you will find lots of great help and insight on here. One of the first things you'll need to keep a 2004 car running well is a suitable code reader, preferably one that can cater for Jaguar specific codes (DTC). Enjoy. N6 JMX

Hi Phil, the first thing required is more information, particularly any stored fault codes that could point to the problem. You have listed your XJ as a 2012 model, therefore an X-351 model, so it should be worthy of a fix, but first we need to know what is causing the limp home mode. N6 JMX

I assume you are using a suitable charger for the battery? Your battery is NOT a standard lead acid, but an AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) and should never be charged using a standard style charger. It must be charged by a charger with an AGM setting. The AGM battery has a very different charging cycle and has different internals. The fact that you sometimes get interior lights and ignition, would indicate that the battery can deliver a small level of current but not cranking the car would be a sign that the battery is past it's prime. If the battery has a Jaguar sticker on it, it could well be the original and therefore at least 9 years old, which is well past the use by date for a battery in a modern vehicle - 5 years would be more typical these days with all of the onboard electronics. You certainly need to have the battery drop tested to confirm it's condition, but even then, I would suspect it to be dead - especially if charged incorrectly. N6 JMX

Ok I give in . what have you done with it .
N6 JMX replied to gordj65's topic in New Members Introductions
I Gordon, you are not alone. I suspect the site has an issue at the moment and a number of recent posts have "gone astray". I haven't started any recently, but a few of my answers have certainly gone from the post areas. Over the the staff / moderators to advise. Incidentally, check out the post under Scottish Events for a Jaguar Day in Glasgow on Saturday, Jun.29.24. N6 JMX
