Id honestly check what they are actually going to do before you book it in.  It may state Major service but some, well most, times their idea of a major service is different to yours.   I have done a lot of research on the subject lately and most "major" services mean just a look around your car and an Oil change basically.   You would be better off with an MOT and an independent Oil and filter change from a good garage. At the average cost of between £200-£300+  id want more for my money.

Of course if you can prove me wrong please feel free.  I certainly wont be offended. :)

Just saying Hi.  Apparently I have been a member for a while but never remembered joining!  Must be my age.   Got myself a nice Jag XKR convertible last year. My pride and joy.

Sure.  You have a bad connection on your battery lead. ;)  Id check the earth first.  Even if it looks secure id remove.  Clean it and replace.   If the Earth is loose you will get those symptoms.

On my other car I had a bad earth.  Talk about bizarre. For no reason at all the car would be simply 'dead' when I got into it. No ignition , nothing.  Then I slammed the door shut.... bingo... everything worked. 

I had bought a brand new battery about a month before.   So I never suspected the battery.  Turned out the garage had not tightened the nut up enough when he fitted the battery and it had come off.  It looked ok when I looked at it.   New nut and bolt on the terminal no problems since.
