  1. ....my wife wanted to take it to work today (technically her car!) ........so I offered to give her a lift and drop her off then pick her up later ;)
  2. Got a call from the dealer that the car would be available from about 5pm today, so off we trundled to collect it. We are both happy bunnies, it drives lovely, never driven anything so smooth & quiet
  3. There is a guy local to me who does these repairs, What he can repair and the standard he achieves is fantastic. I watched him do one, the rim had a sizable flat on the inside edge and was loosing air. You could not see any distortion on the bead afterwards, just a little on the rim and when he balanced it, it only required 60g to balance it.
  4. bent rims can be straightened, cracked rims can be welded Richard
  5. Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience

  6. Thanks Trevor, no this is not a high risk area, I have left car windows, sunroofs open accidentally overnight, doors unlocked etc overnight without a problem. Worst we get is a few idiots with one too many sherberts in them acting the fool on the way home on a friday or saturday night, its usually mirrors that get the attention, So the electric folding mirrors will be nice. I was just concerned that I would never effectively be able to lock the car at night
  7. I cannot see that its any less secure from the car jacking perspective, if a car jacker see's you walk up to the car with the key in your hand they could car jack you.
  8. Having never owned a keyless entry car, our XF we are picking up shortly is keyless entry.........exactly how far away does the key have to be to prevent entry? Our bedroom is in the front (upstairs) of the house, my keys are usually in my pocket, I take my trousers off and put them on the chest of drawers by the window at night (with keys in the pocket) .....is this going to render our car totally insecure at night? do I need to park across the road to be sure?
  9. The thing with auto boxes is they quote the total content, when a lot of the fluid is in the system and in the torque converter and not laying in the sump. Dealers do clever things like disconnecting a pipe and draining from one end whilst filling at the other to ensure all the old fluid is out. I am sure it does not need £22.60 per Litre fluid, I have not had time to look into Jag stuff yet, but its probably Dexron 111 or something..........anyone know what fluid to use? My recommendation if its as dark as you say is to drain and refill, run the car, then drain and refill again, you will not get all the old stuff out, but you will get most of it. Richard
  10. You say "the way they are presented for sale" when we viewed and drove the car it was pristine, the only thing I would say is that the boot could have done with a quick vacuum.........but they insisted, that is the car in the raw and it will look much better :) I also would not use them for servicing, I may even do it myself, you know its been done then ;)
  11. regarding the road tax there is no cheap way out..........dealers are no longer allowed to cash inn the road tax, so they advise clients to do it, so the car we are buying has no road tax and needs it, and we cash in the road tax on the old car, so if we do it before the end of the month we get all of June back on the old car but pay for may on the new one, if we do it in June, we dont pay for may on the new car but we lose June on the old car........its a lose - lose situation the tax man is the only one who gains :(
  12. I hear what you are saying about the main dealers, but they were very compettitive on price, they were £1700 cheaper than a local independant that had a similar spec & age car and they had the colour we wanted, the car we bought is a '59 plate with 59k miles, this is in a local dealer 6 months older but 20k more miles and they gave me exactly what we were expecting on the px throw in 12 months Jaguar warranty and it really starts to look like a good deal http://www.chelmerbridge.co.uk/used-cars/jaguar-xf-3-0d-v6-premium-luxury-4dr-auto-chelmsford-201402201946478
  13. Visited my friendly local Jaguar Dealer this afternoon, test drove a Claret XF Premium Luxury 3.0 Diesel with Ivory Leather and 19" wheels Loved it to bits, signed up the papers and will be picking up our new pride & joy either Thursday afternoon or Monday
  14. I have never even heard of the Hamsters :)
  15. LOL You have lost me there Trevor ?? Richard
  16. We are about 30 miles from Rayleigh
  17. Tell him to man up and get the Jag......unless he wants to buy my TT?
  18. I will also add, that if you like "quick" cars, the 225BHP TT is quick, with a simple remap, an extra 40bhp is available, along with extra mid range, the performance is then phenominal :)
  19. Just to add the above comments refer to the older MK1 TT up to 2006, I have not driven the MK2
  20. The TT is a pig to park, the rear visibility is among the worst I have ever driven, and the mirrors are awefull as they sit above the shoulder on the bodywork, so there is no visibility of curbs etc when parking. The doors are too long and too far back, when parked in a std parking space, it can be difficult to get out of it. ....All that said, its great fun to drive, its like a go-kart with a Rocket up its ar5e. But with the gearing and the ride as they are its no fun to drive any distance. My Son has a Focus ST, that is great fun and a boy racers car, the TT is a more mature fun car, we are now moving on to a grown up car, the Jag, is as quick as the TT in a straight line, more economical, and cheaper Tax and insurance. Better drive on a long run. On a short run test drive the TT is great fun and very addictive. Richard
  21. Thanks for all the responses, visited a nearby Jaguar dealer today, the car we went to see had gone.......but one came in this morning, it has a scuff on the bumper so is currently off site at the bodyshop having that rectified. It sounds perfect, it has our name all over it, an early 2010 '59 plate car 3.0D Premium Luxury with 19" wheels. In Claret The salesman has assured me that even with the 19" wheels the ride will be in a different league to our TT, and I can see that, so I am taking his word for it. Its a one owner from new sold and serviced by this dealer, owned by an 85 year old Gent It will be back from the bodyshop 2pm on Tuesday, so I have booked test drive 3pm on Tuesday :)
  22. Thanks for the Welcome. Incidentally Our Son who has a Focus ST has decided that he is not a boy racer after all and has his eye on buying an XK and preferably an R, so would be interested to hear how you get on with the XKR :)
  23. Hi All, my name is Richard, wifes name is Karen, hence my username Kasandrich :) We have had many cars over the years, but never owned a Jag Currently we own a Kia Sorento 2.5 Diesel Auto and an Audi TT. The TT has been great fun to drive and due to increasing age and waistline we are both finding it increasingly diificult to get in and out and we are starting to find the ride quite harsh. Our eye was caught by a Jaguar XF when we were out looking at cars for our Son, and we both liked the look and idea, of replacing out TT with an XF. The Kia Sorento will currently be retained for towing duties, but I will give the Jag a shot with the Caravan on the back, but if it does not work out then the towing is not an issue. Having researched them, I have come to the conclusion, that the 3.0 Diesel is the engine of choice, for combined reasons of fuel consumption, performance and road tax bracket. I had the idea that to join the Owners club would be a good idea prior to purchase, as there is no greater pool of honest information. My initial thoughts were to go for the Premium Luxury model, however having done some research on here I have seen that the 18" wheels on the Premium Luxury give a harsh ride, so I am now think that a Luxury with its 17" wheels and higher profile tyres may be better. Colour preference is to avoid silver/grey's, maybe a blue or red? Any tips and things to watch out for much appreciated. Looking forward to conversing with you as we move towards a purchase. Budget is around the £15k mark, so if anyone has a nice example that fits the bill for sale, or knows of one for sale, please do let me know. :) :) :)
