  1. Danny only you will know the answer to the question; Should I buy an XJ8 (XK) with 67,000 miles in good shape & have the entire timing system changed. If you are asking my advice with a tatty interior I would stay well clear being what I have previously stated a sign of wear and higher than normal mileage. I don't know what sort of money is being asked for it but I think I would save a few more pennies for a later model, silver is also not a favourite colour choice for me being harder to sell on with it showing all blemishes and rust etc. This is my opinion Danny and you should form your own, good luck
  2. Hi Colin, good luck with organising a meet in the beautiful South West. I have also posted an option for a meet in South Wales details as follows; Must say I would very much like a meet to see the guys that are communicating very often through the forum. Two years ago I arranged a meet in Swansea for the Mercedes SL club. All arrived on the Friday evening and we stayed in the Village Hotel which you will know Phillip down by the Marina and we had dinner together. I planned a route drive for the Saturday taking in the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons stopping off in my local for a light lunch. We again all had dinner together in the Village Hotel at a decent rate on the Saturday evening and said our goodbye's on the Sunday morning. Everybody expressed how much they enjoyed themselves especially on the roads I took them on for which Clarkson and Hammond performed their Top Gear test drives. I would be more than happy to do exactly the same for the Jaguar owners club should the members want me to do so. Come on guys give me a list of names? So far: 1. Peter (Old Peter 2. Ken (KEN33Y) 3.   5. Hi Con, Peter has given you some great answers for which he have obviously researched. With regard to metric / imperial fittings unfortunately again tis would be the period of change over, I know I was using metric tools on my cars built after that period or even equal to that period.

You would find it a relatively easy job and a good place to purchase the discs and pads will be; http://ebcbrakesdirect.com/Store/Automotive/vt/1 I have used them in the past and they would offer a choice of disc's / pads whether you want standard or drilled/vented, crossed drilled etc
  7. Hi Danny, unfortunately I am not aware of or seen the Carbon Fibre model so have not got the information on that score to assist you with an heads up. Is it an actual Fibreglass body or is certain parts of it Fibre? If the body then from experience (my old Lotus Elan Sprite) many years ago look for cracks and bubbling with the paintwork, it can be costly to repair. You are half way there with the service history but I would check it carefully to ensure it is truthful. In the UK we have to MOT the vehicle every year and all the data to such is recorded by VOSA and you can go online with the registration and check its history and verify mileage and more. I am not aware if that system is the same in Ireland. The 4.2ltr V8 Supercharged engine is excellent and very powerful has a Porshe found out on the weekend :-) Obviously listen for any rattles and the like and a good tell tale sign of a well looked after car with low mileage would be the state of the interior i.e. no cracks or holes in the leather etc. Good luck buddy

  9. You can download the OBD2 scanner for free just google OBD2 scanner free download and then purchase a 16pin to usb from amazon or the likes quite cheaply

  12. Sorry Paul but unless you have a diagnostic kit with you I think you will be stuck on that one unless of course you bight the bullet and go to a dealer or maybe a small garage with a diagnostic kit that can reset it for you. Is the car drivable at present?

  17. Hi Kevin and welcome to THE JAGUAR OWNERS CLUB :-) May I ask have you any insight as to why the problems exist on your new car? I am assuming you would have otherwise who would have bought a vehicle in such a bad state of repair? No brake fluid to me indicates a leak either in a pipe/pipes or from a master cylinder seal which should be relatively easy to trace and the fact that there is no brake fluid will result in 'no brakes working' and very possibly the reason for the ABS light remaining on therefore, I would personally start by resolving the brake fluid issue wherever it lies, give the brakes a good bleed starting from the furthest point away from the brake cylinder and then at a slow driving pace test the brakes. In fact if possible if there is a nearby MOT station then I would ask them to check the brakes following repair for reassurance, very often on seal repairs leaks can seep though whilst they settle.

  19. Hi Danny and welcome to the Jaguar Owners Club even though you are still yet to purchase one. Bide your time and wait until the right one comes along for you, it may also be worth you broadening your distance prepared to travel for one. You can always ask the members on here if anyone lives nearby to take a butchers at one on your behalf taking photographs and the like and checking the paperwork to confirm mileage etc. The latter can be done on the VOSA website for free. Another thing you may wish to consider running long the lines of the XK8 is the XKR
  20. You are quite right Trevor, none of the major manufactures appear to list an Jaguar XJ tow bar. However, from my google search I found various articles which included a write up on the car model being an excellent tow vehicle therefore, I suspect a tow bar is actually manufactured by A N Other. My own personal assumption is that Jaguar themselves supply it as an accessory. It may be well worth you giving a dealers store department a call to establish if this is correct.
  21. Normally when sourcing a fault an RAC engineer would plug his diagnostic meter into the car, I'm sure he would not have come to such a sure conclusion without the correct information. Agree the problem may lay with the fuel pump and yes it could be an electrical fault to the pump that would be quite feasible. Also, an RAC engineer would normally give you the option and ask where you want the car taken to i.e. home, garage etc. I assume you opted for home however that now leaves the problem of getting to a garage unless youu are aware of a mobile mechanic? Good luck in resolving the issue but I do think it needs to be looked at by a technician
  22. When purchasing a vehicle with high mileage then it would depend on the age when making decisions. For example, if the car is only 3 or 4 years old then it is very likely that it was a company car and if so would have been serviced regularly. I would suggest checking the cars history by asking to see the registration document for previous owners etc. You should also check the service history. Another thing to consider would be if you are a member of the AA or RAC the latter in particular offer an inspection service for which I believe is a reasonable fee which also includes a guarantee of some sort which would need to be looked in to.
