  1. You may find help here; http://upkeep.us/OBDII/OBD2/Jaguar/piart.php?art=5064 This is supposed to be a list of the full Jaguar fault codes however, P1620 does not appear in the list http://www.engine-light-help.com/jaguar-check-engine-light.html Apparently in the X and S type there are fault codes built in to the instrument cluster, you will fns an explanation in the link below; http://www.bluejag.co.uk/S-Type%20Instrument-cluster-diagnostics.php
  2. Hi Gary, I'm also a recently new member having bought an XKR following my brother buying the new F Type. I have to sell my beloved SLK32 now which I have owned for 11 years (only 52,500) genuine) on the clock. I must admit the XKR has bags of power at 400+bhp but the 32 appears just as quick. The 32 don't have as much bhp butter being lighter I think its giving a false impression. It was a close call between the XKR and a SL55 but the Jaguar came along and stood out
  3. Over the many years of motoring when I've been in the situation whereupon shocks needed replacing then I have always replaced them in pairs and believe the majority of engineers would advise likewise.
  4. Hi Dave, welcome I'm recently new to the forum myself having just purchased a XKR. Cannot give you any advice on the X Type but hope all goes well for you and you find a suitable motor soon
  5. The only Jaguar I've got Ant and the only one I've ever owned. I've still got the SLK32 and the driveway hosts the Son's Lotus Exige and her indoors MX5 also my work ride CLK270 Cdi
  6. I Know what you are saying however where I live you don't get any such problems. The car will be asleep for 4 months in October! only t out to play in good weather sunny sky's etc, we have another two cars for shopping and the like Yes it was all motorway for the instance home except for the last four miles, we live on the A4059 the road Hammond uses for his test drives in Top Gear. Would make a good location for a Jaguar meet
  7. You won't believe this Anthony but I rang the dealer who sold me the car the very next day following posting my problem and he explained that they had the rear near side wheel off to change a baring and to take a look and see if the locking wheel nut tool was still attached as they have had this problem in the past. I expressed that I had driven the car some 160 miles home so the chances of the tool still being attached were less than slim but checked anyway. Sure enough it was still attached, I couldn't believe it. I've taken the locking wheel nuts off now and replaced them with ordinary nuts having had problems with locking wheel nuts/bolts in the past and the car will be living in a alarmed garage anyway with very little public parking.
  8. Think I've read the hand book front to back Charlie obviously, I'm missing it somewhere. Any other convertible owners out there who can help?
  9. Charlie, I'm a professional electrical engineer although not automotive I do understand the theories behind electronics from which these sensors work on (it works like a transducer) which I wor with in design process every day within the water industry. I know if 1 sensor goes then none will work because they work on a daisy chain basis (resistance) What I really want is a link to getting a genuine sensor, it will take me less than 5 minutes to fit.
  10. Happy you came back with that Charlie, I was sitting in the car going nuts :D Actually Charlie I'm still going nuts you see I have a XKR convertible and there is a black button situated next to the interior light however, the aforementioned button simply turns the interior light on one on driver's side and retrospectively another matching on the passengers side.
  11. Andrew, unfortunately due to the time period of you not noticing the noise was still there the dealer may argue that its a new rattle caused by wear and tear whereas the original rattle was resolved. He/She may say where have you been until now? Six of One half a dozen of another mate down to experience
  12. 1 of the reverse parking sensors as gone on my XKR and I wish to replace it. Anyone know where I can get a genuine replacement other than stealers prices or will I need to visit the dealer? I also have sensors fitted to the front which don't appear to work obviously the rear work when reverse gear is engaged how does the front come into play without stating the obvious (when drive is engaged). Any help would be grateful.
  13. Hi John, I am also new to the club (forum) and wish you well to the joys of Jaguar ownership especially an E Type. Being a lad in the sixties I couldn't choose between the E Type and the Lotus Europa, I can now. Definitely pictures though buddy
  14. After picking up my car yesterday the daylight today gave me my first chance to look over it and get used to the controls etc. I have come across a problem in that I cannot locate the locking wheel nut. I have searched all the usual places glove box, armrest, door pockets, spare wheel and associated tools etc to no avail therefore, I'm assuming its been mislaid somewhere in its life. I will obviously be calling the dealer who sold me the car in the hope he can shed any light but am not to hopeful of a result there. I had a similar problem with a Mercedes many years ago and after contacting the dealer I was informed that Mercedes only made X amount of different patterns and if I called to the garage they had the full set and would match it up for me. I did so and true to their word they found the correct fit and ordered me a new one. Doe's anyone know if Jaguar are as efficient i.e. only having so many patterns etc or if anyone have experienced the same problem? Thank you in anticipation of any assistance.
  15. Thanks for the information my Lord :D I'm sure it will come useful in the future Kind Regards Ken
  16. Thanks for that information Peter young chap :-) anyone know what plug type is used on the Jaguar for Diagnostics and where the socket is located on the XKR? I have software on my laptop that can maybe assist me in upgrading the power output myself although its more likely to be de-restricting the limiters. I currently have a 16pin plug which Mercedes and other German Cars use although it also fits my Son's Lotus Exige (not that I am nimble enough to get in the damm thing searching for the socket, he has to do that for me)
  17. Please excuse my ignorance however, what are the main differences between the XKR / XKR-S? Without any research I'm assuming the latter is a sports version of the model which appears ironic in that the former produces 400bhp anyway although, I must say my supercharged V6 3.2 litre SLK appears to be just as quick producing 347bhp (R170 Model) Kind Regards, Ken
  18. Hi Charles, I appreciate what you are saying and noted the car was quick on my journey home last night however, I currently own a 347bhp Merc SLK which is lighter than the XKR therefore, as you can appreciate I am used to the looks and boy racers trying (trying hard) to take me on without success :-) Im fortunate to live in a small village on the edge of the Brecon Beacons (Penderyn) where the A4059 passes through and is a favourite test track for Richard Hammond. Seen him once or twice.
  19. Thank you Trevor, its a 2003 model with 54,240 recorded. Also verified with VOSA and HPI to cross check the mileage. Kind Regards, Ken
  20. I purchased a XKR yesterday some 150 miles away from home (High Wycombe A404 - M4 - A470 - A465) and loved the journey back, the car was so comfortable and responsive. The only drawback was that light was fading and not being familiar with the vehicle and its control switches etc I ended up turning things on/off until the desired option arrived. Looking forward to showing it off in the light of day now. Anything I should look out for with this model? I assume timing chain rather than belt would that be correct?
