  1. From what I have read its a chain Charlie which gives me some piece of mind however, there is always an however, there appears to be a stage where the XKR used some form of plastic tensioners which was not a good idea and they changed to metal. I know need to know at what stage to ensure my model is equipped with the latter tensioners
  2. Good for you Scott, I genuinely would to give you piece of mind that no suspension, tracking or other damage was caused in the bump. If it was hit hard enough to kill a wheel I would expect further damage. I hit a roundabout once slowly not being able to stop on ice on a downward hill and it knocked the wishbone back.
  3. Croeso Dewi, I'm up the road in Penderyn A4059 Hammonds Test Track. We shall have to meet up at the Story Arms one fine day and have a blast, Pistonhead members (South Wales) do it regulary I need to update the Sat Nav in mine also, I'm sure it will only be the cost of a disc so I would be happy to split the cost
  4. For a simple oil / filter change its worth checking out the likes of National Tyres. If you ask them what oil they would use they would ask you the make model of the car and inform you of what oil they would use in your vehicle. I used them for my Merc and the used Castrol Magnatec for which I was happy with. Have not had the requirement for the XKR yet to ask
  5. Need a little more information to go on with the radiator John, what was going on at the time? have it boiled? have you filled and looked for leaks? Could be corrosion, could be a stone entering through the grill damaging the cores have you checked for any damage?
  6. Snap Peter not forgetting the feeler gauges. I also googled and noted various tensioners plastic/metal
  7. Thanks Peter, still want to know to be sure and put my mind at rest, suffered severe engine damage many years ago with those damn pesky cam belts and don't want it to happen again. If car manufacturers persist in driving the motor with cam belts then they should at the very least install non interference engines.
  8. The Black Mountains (A4069) where can does his Top Gear test drives are not far from Swansea near, Ammanford and the A4059 Richard Hammond's test track is quite close to Brecon. I think Captain Slow uses the Taff Trail cycle path :) To late in the year now but come the better weather next year I would be happy to show the routes if anyone fancies a club meet and drive around the area. Fabulous hotels at very reasonable prices in Swansea I organised it for the Merc Boys and Girls a few years ago and we had a great time.
  9. Its the A4059 between Penderyn and Nant Ddu its Hammonds favourite test track whilsk Clarkson prefers the A4069 over the Black Mountains
  10. Thought I had better ask the question, is the 4.2 V8 supercharged engine driven by a cam belt or timing chain? I have nasty experience of cam belts and thought they were a thing of the past however, reading a advertisement for an XKR I came across the sentence 'recently had cam belt replaced' which sent shivers down my spine. All the Mercs I had were chain driven and offered no worries
  11. Hope you are not having a go at those nice Scamera Men again Peter? Did you know the Safety Scamera Partnership employ Civilian Operators to hide in the back of their vans? Are you aware that it must and I use the word'MUST' be a serving officer to collect evidence therefore, any evidence collected against you from a civilian operator would be deemed null and void in a court of law
  12. I was under the impression that the XKR was 420bhp, is there different models of the XKR other than the S which gives it more bhp? I'm guessing mine being a convertible would carry a little extra weight but assume they all come with the 4.0 V8 supercharged lump?
  13. What did they add to the XKR - S to take it from 420 to 510 bhp thats wicked. 20K would buy you a reasonably decent second hand XKR so why would a dealer try it on in such a manner? I'm happy enough at the moment with the XKR although the Boy can out accelerate me 0 - 60 in his Lotus Exige, I have the last laugh as the torque kicks in though and pass him between 60 - 100
  14. Maybe because we have all become concious of the Safety Scamera Partnership and brown envelopes
  15. I've got the Ivory leather in mine also albeit mine is the lighter shade of blue and convertible. I admit to it being quick but don't honestly know if it is any quicker than my old AMG even though its got 420bhp opposed to 347bhp could be a weight/torque thing
  16. Took my XKR out for a spin last Sunday morning all by myself on a road that's used regularly by Richard Hammond, its where I live. A 911 was right close to my rear bumper getting on my nerves waiting for a clear stretch so that he could take me. Not a chance in hell, I was waiting, flicked the Sport mode button and waited for that nice clear stretch myself and let it rip. What a note Didn't see the 911 again
  17. I have that to find out also Andy, my last motor AMG I had for 11 years and the reliability could not be faulted. So the XKR has got to live up to an high standard.
  18. HI Shep and Croeso (Welcome) obviously croeso is Welsh for welcome. Hope you enjoy your Jaguar experience, I've only recently joined myself XKR crossing over from Mercedes however, all that I have come in contact with have appeared friendly. My brother Jason Donovan (TRUTH) check out my surname in profile, don't believe he as joined the forum/club as yet has just bought the new F type S which is an amazing motor twin supercharcher

  20. Unfortunately I'm not one for using Halfrauds, not what they used to be and most certainly over priced therefore what you may save in discount i.e. 15% off would have been on the top end price anyway. Halfrauds to me is to be used on a Sunday when desperate and nothing else is open
  21. Waterless Coolant? does that mean non diluted?
  22. Returned my plate transfer in a week, fair play a quick turn around
