  1. Hi All

I have just swapped my '05 S Type for an '07 XJ Sovereign LWB. Same 2.7 TTD engine yet despite it being an ex government car with armour, it yields better fuel consumption, just over 40mpg.

Unfortunately the rear entertainment system has died along with the radio and phone, all of which were working when I picked it up.

If anyone has any ideas I'd be grateful.

It's still a lovely car and despite the above I'm pleased with it.

    Thanks.

You'd also have one heck of a job seeing where you were going even with the headlights on. Unless you fit a radar system of course!

You could always try getting your electric parking brake fixed and save all this trouble.

PS This post is going from the ridiculous to the sublime.

  3. Hi Paul

I was positive (no pun intended) that the + terminal was covered but have just been and looked. Like yours it is covering half of it and it is under the floor carpet so unless you drop something like a wheel brace across the two it's generally no problem. So Ok, Peter's plastic & duct tape would be useful here but I still don't see the point of covering the negative connection.

My wife's Corolla only has the positive covered albeit a big red piece of moulded rubber that covers all of it, and that battery is in the engine bay!

  4. Hi Peter & Paul

Not sure I see the point of Peter's Heath Robinson plastic and duct tape on the negative terminal. By the way my '05 S Type has the positive covered.

Back to Peter's 'fix'. The other end of the negative lead is connected to the body so in theory by both your thinkings didn't you ought to cover the whole car in plastic and duct tape??  Sorry not meaning to be rude but any 'live' wire touching the bodywork would cause a short.

Anyway happy S Type motoring guys.

  6. Hi Mark

Must admit I've not had that problem on my 2.7 Twin Turbo Diesel Sport and sincerely hope I don't! With modern cars there is not a lot you can do yourself. Often things are fixed on a PC as so much is computer controlled. When you shift into drive or reverse the revs should adjust to suit the extra load put on the engine but obviously not as much as you are experiencing. Take it back and see what they say. Meanwhile I'd pop it into neutral to be safe.

Let us know how you get on as handy if anyone else gets a similar problem. I also belong to the Jaguar Drivers' Club Bedfordshire, area 17 and run our area website so any useful tips I can add would be good.

    Colin

  7. Hi

    Welcome to the forum.

If you bought the car from a dealer, I'd take it back. They should give you a limited warrenty on it. It sounds like the idle speed needs tuning. Does it rev up in neutral or park or only in drive?

If you bought it privately then of course there won't be any warranty so I'd look for an independent service agent. Shame you're in Yorkshire as I know a really good one in Milton Keynes! Check the Recommended Independent Garages on this forum (Under Jaguar Owners Lounge).

    Best of luck

    Colin

  8. Hi Dave

Found this reply re XF satnav on another forum. "The nav disc player is on the upper left side of the trunk, behind a removable felt-covered panel that you just pop out. This is shown in your manual. You then "unlock" the disc player, press the eject button, and the disc comes out. To put the new one in, the nav has to be turned on inside the car."

Don't know if that's any help.

    Colin

  9. I have a 2005 S-Type sport 2.7 twin turbo Diesel and like Geoff don't do enough miles but have it serviced and M.O.T'd on it's anniversary. I also use a reputable independent.

I believe there is a service warning light which after a period displays as a message. I remember reading somewhere how to reset it so if it can be reset it must occur!

Can you check when it was last serviced, stamp in the service book?

    Enjoy the car.

    Colin

  10. Hi Steve

Glad to have been of help.

Is it a private sale or from a dealer. Either way, ask them if it has a phone module, voice control etc.

When you press the phone button you should get a numeric key pad appear so you can type in the necessary code to tell the unit to pair with your phone.

I may be wrong with message if a module isn't fitted. I got that message when mine went wrong so assumed that is what you get. I apologise if I'm wrong.

Also if it's from a main dealer ask if the main software is up to date. The reason I say this is an incident I had with mine two christmases ago. It's a long story so I'll just stick to the point.

I got stuck in snow half way up a hill. Eventually made it to where I was going. When I came to leave, the car started fine as it alway does but I had a message on the dashboard saying Handbrake failure. I could not shift the lever out of park. Green Flag brought the car back home for me and after Christmas I phoned my independent service garage.  One of the owners came out 6pm New Years eve with his lap top and reset the alarms. Best bit was no charge!

I thoroughly recommend these guy's but they are in Milton Keynes, bit of a trek from Dorset!

Next time I visited them they told me Jaguar had a software update which stopped the gear shift being locked in park so they had it upgraded for me.

Worth checking out, unless yours is manual then I guess it would not be affected.

Hope I haven't put you off and sincerely hope when you get it you are pleased with it.

    Colin
