  1. Hi Steve

The phone unit if fitted is bluetooth and is totally separate from the Sat nav, only sharing the screen.  When you get the car, press the phone button. If a phone unit isn't fitted it will show on screen that one isn't fitted. If it has one you have to pair your bluetooth mobile phone with it. Instructions here:-

If the car comes with the original Sat Nav disc you may want to obtain a newer version as apart updated maps, the disc contains software updates. From Jaguar the are very expensive, around £300 I believe.  However you can get an alternative from http://www.satnavi.com/jaguar-xj-xj8-xjr-s-x--type.php  £34.99.  I bought one last year and can vouch they are as good as a genuine Jaguar disc.

Voice control is only on certain models. It will depend what spec your one is.

    Hope this helps.

  2. Hi to anyone in Bedfordshire or just over the border in Buckinghamshire or Hertfodshire.

As a member of the Jaguar Drivers Club Bedfordshire Area and recently appointed web administrator I'd like to invite any Jaguar car owners to join us. We are a social club rather than 'petrol heads' and therefore welcome wives, husbands, lovers....

We meet every 2nd Monday of he month at The Jolly Coopers in Ward hedges, Flitton.

See our website for further details http://jaguar17.co.uk

We look forward to seeing you.

  3. Hi

    Sounds nasty!

Before spending pounds chasing fault after fault I'd take to an independent Jaguar service agent such as E & E Services Milton Keynes and get them to do a diagnostic on it. That should identify what needs replacing.

I had a 'Handbrake fault' a couple of years ago during snow, that prevented the shift lever from being moved. E & E's came out, plugged laptop in and reset alarms. Best part, I didn't get charged!

    Best of luck

  4. This is for S Type & X Type.

Press & hold the Phone & Menu buttons simultaneously for about 5 seconds until a numeric keypad appears asking for the Diag PIN number.

Enter 917 and a Diagnostic screen appears.

To return to normal, switch off the ignition.

There may be something similar on other models. I suggest you try pressing combinations of buttons. This is how I found this!

Engineering test mode can be obtained by pressing and holding the button on the indicator stalk while turning on the ignition. The words

Engineering test mode are displayed in the right hand message centre display (fuel gauge side). I suggest you visit

http://www.bluejag.co.uk/S-Type%20Instrument-cluster-diagnostics.php for further details plus it includes a list of codes.

  5. I discovered this morning that if you press & hold the Phone & Menu buttons simultaneously for about 5 seconds a numeric keypad appears asking for the Diag PIN number. At the time I didn't know what it was but have since found out it is 917.

Haven't had a chance to see what it does yet but thought I'd put it on here in as a possible useful tip.

  6. When I start my 2005 S Type Sport 2.7 diesel the touch screen states Hand set in use. Mute and replace handset.

My iPhone 4S isn't even paired anymore.

I read somewhere that it is because the 4s isn't compatible and causes the lock out. It worked when I first had it then threw up this message which never goes away so I can't do anything.

    Any ideas anyone.

    Thanks

    Colin

  7. Could this be indicating that the car may require a service or is it a sign of a more serious problem.

Is the car due or overdue a service? It could be a minor electrical problem as it's intermittent or could be more serious. Whatever it is I suggest you get it to your service agent and get it checked out a.s.a.p. Never wise to ignore warning lights or messages.

  8. I have no problems letting my wife drive my S Type. Like me she loves big cars even though her own car is a Toyota Corolla. Her favourite rouse to get to drive the Jag is getting me to go fill her car with fuel as she hasn't time!! She goes to work, I'm retired. Yea yea I know I'm a sucker and have been for 42 years.

Handy when we go out though as I drive to the venue and let her drive home. So what's wrong with that, It's fair isn't it?

    Colin

  9. Hi Dave

Well I've heard of Oslo & Butlins at Minehead but never been to either. As for the others, absolutely no idea. Could well be on the moon for all I know.

Had a couple of weeks in Lanzarote in June & off to the Algarve for a couple of weeks in a couple of weeks.

As for my under the weather Jag, forgot to mention that the driver door multi switch unit needs replacing. Can't preset driver positions other than for me. Wifey's pre set position has gone and won't reset. I blame it on being a Ford Jaguar!

As for the parking sensors, It's been a while since we had a dry spell but last time we did they worked perfectly. I've had three replaced and another due to be in the four years I've had the car so by the time I've had the car 8 years I will have had them all replaced.

Did you know air bags are now part of the M.O.T? I was originally told they weren't but then told they have just become a part and therefore had to get them working.

Well, it's Saturday evening, & I think it's time for a scotch but it's Jameson's, It's passable though. Given to me by my brother in law. Oh well, can't waste it can we. I've poured you one but looks like I'll have to drink it.

    Cheers

  10. Hi Dave

Was beginning to wonder if you had emigrated to the moon or worse still switched marks!!

I've been doing well which is more than can be said for my S Type. Had an £800 bill a few weeks back. Split pipe on the air con which meant removing near side suspension to get to it and air bag sensor in steering column had to be replaced.

Telephone unit now packed up. Tells me 'Hand set is in use' all the time. Plus rear parking sensors pack up when it rains so therefore haven't worked for weeks.

Still love the car though, probably because it's a jag! :D

    Best.

  11. Hi Steve

The button with a phone icon will only work if the vehicle has the phone unit fitted. Pressing the button should tell you if it is or not.

If a unit is fitted you need a mobile phone with bluetooth. See this website on how to pair your phone. http://jaguar.bttlxe.com/xtype/Bluetooth-Latest/06%20-%20Getting%20Started.pdf

I take it by rear drivers door you mean rear drivers side passenger door! Could be the solenoid or broken wire. Can't really help on this one. Do you have a decent independent repairer you could go to? A dealer will no doubt be expensive.

    Hope that helps.

  12. Traction control should be on by default so leave it on. If you hit a spot of Oil or grease on the road it'll help prevent you loosing control. No good trying to swift it on when you car is doing a pirouette in the middle of the road!

The only time I disengage it on my S Type is occasionally on snow or ice where a bit of wheel spin will get you going!

    Hope that helps.

    Colin

  13. Hi

Anyone know how to remove/replace the switchpack (mirror, windows, seat memory) on the drivers door of an '05 S Type.

    post-79-0-13976300-1344943460_thumb.jpg

Trying to reduce costs as car already booked in for air con pipe replacement and airbag control pack which will give me 24p change out of £800! So if I can get the switchpack, hopefully I can manage to replace it once I know how.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

    Colin
