  1. Jaguar S-Type 2005 3.0 lpg

    Hi all,

Jaguar s type 3.0 V6 auto, s.e, 2005 facelift, 186k in blue, Sport lookalike (more details below), mot until 25/02/17, full leather/heated seats, cruise control, touch screen/sat nav with CDC, voice and bluetooth, powerfold mirrors, powerwash headlights, polychromatic mirrors, heated front screen, parking sensors front and rear,
18" mercury alloy wheels with good tyres (also have std wheels).Powerflex bushes fitted to front wishbones, new rear discs and pads. A.C regassed 3 mths ago. Sunshades fitted to all rear windows.

It drives 100% and everything works as it should but does have a gearbox fault (more details below). I am still driving it every day and will be for the next 2 weeks.

Lpg conversion - I fitted a multipoint lpg system 2 years ago, it was then fully looked over by a professional, the tank takes about 70 litres which gives about 300 miles and it's in the spare wheelwell. A petrol fuel return is fitted which all jags/landrovers need. It also had a new lpg ecu and all injectors fitted about 10 mths ago. I also took it to a lpg genius who totally remapped the lpg. The cats have both been gutted (they are not needed for lpg cars) and both rear 02 sensors have extensions fitted which stops fault codes popping up. It runs great on gas.

Sport lookalike details - colour coded grille fitted, aftermarket rear boot spoiler/lip, all chrome around bumpers/windows has body pinstripe tape. Shocks/springs were fitted 2 years ago from a low mileage 3.0 sport, the front springs were shorten 20mm to level out the car due to the weight of the gas tank. XS exhaust tips.

    Bad points -
Bad crack on front screen (heated screen still works).
Bodywork is only fair condition with a dent on driver's door and other scratches (i will post more pictures later)
Brakes I think could done with a fluid change.
Auto box fault - it slips gears and comes up with 'gearbox fault' P0783 shift malfunction. This only happens with light throttle changing from 3-4, I have been using it evey day like this because I have found then in slow traffic if I keep it in 3rd gear until I can speed up and then back in drive it change ok. I drove to London last Sunday and was driving for over 5 hours and not once did the fault happen by doing the above.
I have also noticed there is oil over the right hand exhaust pipe from rear of gearbox backwards so it looks like the sleeve could be leaking.

I will post more pictures then I get chance to wash it.
I still need the car for the next 2 weeks min (up to x-mas).

Price is £600. I know the full lpg is worth £300 and the wheels £250 so If it does sell (it will go on ebay over after x-mas) I will break it.

The reg plate will be removed.

  2. Well I've been trying to manage this problem and have found the 'gearbox fault' which is followed by locking if self in 3rd doe's not happen within 30 mins of a cold start but as I travel for a hour each way to work it causes me to have to pull over and restart.
The fault only happens on 3-4 changes when driving normally if I use a heavy right foot it doesn't happen which isn't possible in traffic.

So after 30 mins from a cold start if I drive into a 40/30 mph limit I have to put level into 3 and only back into D then road speed is back is 50mph and I can floor it. Same applies to roundabouts and junctions.

Now today the fault happened less than 5 mins from cold start which doesn't help as I trying to make it last to after

What a shame Simon, could you buy another one, and swap your upgrades on to it? You're not thinking of leaving Jaguar and the S-Type behind I hope!

Cheers.  This is my 3rd S, maybe time for a change!

  4. Hi all,
My S has been slipping gears 2-3 for about 6 mths and been trowing a fault code up for the same about every 6 weeks.
Yesterday and today it has now coming up with P0783 shift malfunction. The gearbox changes have feel worse over the last week.

So I think the end is near for my Jaguar!

Been giving it a clean.  Only real niggle is that I have a gurgling behind the dash.  Seller said he'd had a relay replaced and when I tried it and got it home there was nothing.  From what I can gather it's the A/C flaps behind the dash and not a big job.  Hopefully?

I was worried it would not meet my expectations as I really loved the ZT, but I needn't have been so.

X ZT owner!  Me too I owned 3!

Having just ordered my new 18" Alloys and Tyres I would like to ask if it would still be OK to use my old  17" Spare wheel,

obviously just to get me to a garage, or, do I need to buy an 18" Spare.

    many thanks,

    Colin M.

Hi, it doesn't matter what spare you have. Most S types have a space saving spare wheel.

If the overall diameter of your spare was different from the alloys on your car (which yours isn't) then it would just turn your abs light on. But it would have to be a good few inches.

Well I have to say that this is pretty impressive, what a crazy global market we live in nowadays! I only placed the order a week ago and it was custom painted in Taiwan before dispatch to the actual Jaguar paint codes, which appear to be matched perfectly. Arrived today after being advised of dispatch yesterday, all for £34.99 including shipping!

It fitted easily in a matter of minutes, but came straight so had to be gently bent round the boot shape. I can't wait to get the new staggered alloys and 275/35's on now, but these need spraying which will take awhile, hopefully in the next few weeks.

I'm now slightly disappointed in the condition of my S-Type boot badge, I haven't been able to clean it up and it appears I can find the newer type in good or new condition, but the original X200 ones seem hard to find. Does anyone have any ideas on where I could get one, or will the newer one be a direct replacement for my original?

Looks great and the same as mine.

Does the boot still open fully then using remote?  Mine doesn't it opens about 3" then stops which I like as I'm in and out of the boot all day long getting tools etc and it stop the boot getting wet then it's raining .

Ha ha, I'd be happy to hire the lift to other enthusiasts Jon, but being I'm on the Isle of Wight, I'd expect the take up to be limited

Just a plan in embryo at the moment, but when I last had mine MOT'd, I noticed they had the big 4 post, taking up a lot of space, and the 2 post, which is basically just a couple of pillars when not in use. When I asked and checked, they were not badly priced, from £1K etc. The challenge is now trying to justify / think of a reason that a laser cutting business needs a car lift! I could then buy through the business then and claim the VAT back .

Hi, you don't need to justify buying a ramp through the business, the tax man doesn't go through invoices in detail.

If they did ask why just say it's to service the company vehicle.

    Thanks guys !

I am itching to have a go at the hoses myself but don't have the use of my friends garage anymore.

My garage is not big enough to get the car in and have any room to work.

Just have to bide my time and wait for Andy to get back from his hols.

He said he was going away in a camper van, I asked him 'camper than what ?'

Go on you can do it yourself, you don't need a garage it's not the middle of winter!

I think that's the same one I'm getting Simon, it's the later M3 type, not the early STR type which projects over the rear arches.

Nice rear end BTW! Your badges look super shiny, are they replacements or original?

Yes I think it is M3 type, I will take some more pictures and post soon.

The badges are original (as far as I know).

    Thanks.
