  1. You can normally see the element in good light if you look closely. Little fine wires from top to bottom in the glass. You have a newer car than mine so I'm unsure how you know by switching it on/off as mine has a button in the console but I'm guessing yours won't be the same. Somebody with more knowledge than me should be able to help with that.

  2. Does the electric park brake allow you to select drive with the handbrake applied?  Just thinking that if it has a fail safe if it "thinks" the park brake is on it won't allow drive to be selected. Similarly if it "thinks" the park brake is not applied when you attempt to start it may refuse. What I'm coming too is perhaps it's something that's got blown into the park brake sensors that's causing this?  May explain the heat issue while it's been on a run perhaps?

  3. You have not had the best run of luck with your car. Does the radiator get hot mate?  If not then I would suspect the water pump or thermostat. This may be completely irrelevant but I know that this engine was also used in the mondeo ( I had one) and the water pump had plastic impellor blades that used to fail. I stand to be corrected if this is not the case for you but wish you good luck and hope it's not too serious.

  4. Noticed that since I got my s type I don't refer to it as a car. If we're going out I don't say we will use my car, I say we will take the jag. Never done that with any other cars I've owned (and I've had a few). Is it only me?

  5. Hi Paul, you used to be able to write to the dvla and ask for a list of previous owners so long as you had good reason for asking. I would have thought a hpi check would reveal previous registration numbers used on your car. Also if you have any Jaguar service history they also may be able to help.

Hope that helps and let us know how you get on.

  6. Are you thinking of replacing just the torque converter or the gearbox as well? I don't know about any difference between gearboxes. Perhaps between the 3.0 and 2.5 there may be and someone on here with more knowledge than me could clarify? I would personally replace the whole box with the converter for a known good one if you can. Try to see it working if possible to lessen the risk. Good luck with it.

  7. It was never found. Police recon it would have probably been weighed in for scrap as it was datatagged. Was nowhere near as clean as yours though. Always had bikes sice I was 16 so miss not having one now. Here it is.
