  1. Hahaha, my wife is not keen on my choice either.....  just checked my system to see what it does, from what I can see, it is burning an audio cd for playing in standard type CD players, it seems to be converting the files to suite this format (what ever that is)

i just put in what I want to do with the CD and the software does the rest, the upshot is I can only get approx 8-10 tracks per CD so guessing it's as per a bought cd.

    cheers

  2. Good to hear Ian, it is an unknown quantity tbh and I had to move the pads around to get the result, bit of fine tuning should get you close.

what it really needs is a preformed rubbergator that fits the profile of the lids to each compartment, that would be a significant step in the right direction.

    Cheers

  3. Hi Andre,

agree with Peter, my 2.5 does exactly the same. It is more obvious in the winter due to cold temperatures.

see below from a previous post re- bluetooth connectivity for phone calls, streaming music and satnav

    cheers

just wanted to share this, my car does not have blue tooth connectivity and I needed a solution to connect my phone to allow safe hands free phone calls and music streaming to my stock stereo system. Did a search on Amazon and found the iVCar by AngLink listed at 16.99 delivered, the reviews were excellent and thought it was worth a punt. This device is a complete revelation, plugs into your existing 12v socket, delivered crystal clear streaming of my phones music library, clear hands free calls, sat nav etc, you can even summon Siri voice command. The device takes control of your phone and has a small rotating knob to advance music tracks or end your phone call, it even pairs with your phone automatically when you fire up the Jag, so no need to fiddle with the settings every time you enter your vehicle. I have bought it last week and have given a thorough road test to iron out any little foibles and in all honesty there aren't any, it is a superb bit of kit that is discreet with a superb crystal clear sound reproduction. Pairing with your existing Jag Stereo is simplicity itself. I'm using an iPhone 6 but I believe it works with Android phone system as well.

    Picks below installed, Cheers, And

  4. Right on the money, Jim,

my present car will get a new FF every service, it will do approx 5k per year so service annually, plus anything that crops up along the way.

One things for sure,  I ain't going through shocks like that again for such a small sum.

    cheers

  5. Hi Gordon,

I can't answer your question, but personally, with such a new car, I would refer back to Jaguar with the question, your car will still be under the Manufacturers warrantee I assume, thus make sure any changes you make do not invalidate it. I had a new X type sport some years ago (2004) and wanted to upgrade the wheels to an 18" proteus type, the dealer said they would have to supply and fit or the warrantee would be invalidated. I never changed them due the several £1000s the stealer wanted.

There are a great bunch of guys on here with a wealth of knowledge, so if anyone can give you a straight answer they will do.

    Regards

Lisa, as far as I'm aware ( stand to be corrected ) I'm unsure if the fuel filter would throw a code, could be wrong, but......

at 100k miles and definitely if you're unsure it's cheap maintenance item to do

Various ones are available and everyone has their own favourite, so take your pic

    Bosch £19.49

    Mann £18.99

    Crossland £13.49

all available from Eurocarparts, or you could try your dealer who will relieve you of considerably more probably, but......always worth asking the question at least.

Should look like this, see below....easy to change

Each to their own, but as a service I generally replace it every year to 18 months, its a cheap insurance basically

Your car has covered 100k miles, and an 08 so around 8 years old, you should be aware of the battery Lisa. Our cars are very sensitive to weak / old / failing batteries and can cause all sorts of issues ( not necessarily related to this event ) but weird things happen

Get your battery checked to see it's state of health....If it's original and depending on your usage, cold winter months etc really take their toll on it, certainly worth looking at / bearing in mind if you're keeping the car long term ( 2- 3 years or more )

    Hope it helps?

    Best

    Jim

    Hi Lisa and welcome,

Jim, from my experience, you are partly right on the 'fuel filter may not throw a code' my 200k 2.0d went through a few fuel filters in its life and when a couple of them came near to the end I had the following happen, driving around town gently everything was normal, but as soon as I put my foot down/ motorway the car would jump into safe mode and the management light started flashing, you then pull over switch off for 10 mins re-start engine and all was fine but engine management light still flashed, until, you put your foot down then it would do the same again (blooming scary during an overtake when you don't know what's coming)). The garage said that due to the very high fuel supply pressures required for diesels, the moment that is compromised it puts the car into safe mode, so, when I did short journeys with little exceleration everything was fine (EML still flashed after first safe mode cut out).

What ticked me off with the Jag dealer was, they never offered to change the FF as a matter of course, I had to go through a couple of scary moments (sub 100k) before I took the initiative and told them to change it every 40k or so, excessive but I didn't want to go through that again.

just my experience and obviously may not be the case for everyone.

All the best, Lisa and hope everything is sorted soon for you and the cat

    Cheers

  7. Hi Ian,

I have also had this problem, as Peter says, drop of WD40 on the hinges and tighten screws, I have also added some self adhesive heavy duty circular felt pads to the roof of each compartment (as per pics) and this has resolved the issue, the little rubber cushions that prevent this go a bit soft after a while and all the parts start rubbing together , I have also put them on the side of the centre arm rest to stop the SB housing rubbing . 8. For sure, a Jaguar fsh is preferable, but usually, you would find Jaguar will have serviced the vehicle whilst it is under warrantee from new, then it could have an independent garage fsh there after, a full fsh either way is a must (inc bills if poss to check what's been done in its life), I have an independent local garage up the road that I use who are very reliable and only use OEM parts thus continuity of reliability post service, never had a problem in 7 years, don't forget MOT's are a good way of checking advisories/pass/fails throughout its life, so need to see these too.

    Safe and happy shopping

  9. Nathan, just for info, I did 200k in my Sport 2.0d, kept it serviced on the dot, went through rear bushes and bearings every 50k and needed a new air con system at 160 k but apart from the usual ancillaries as you would expect, it was a great car and very reliable. Agree with Peter, if light lens are a bit dull, you can upgrade bulbs with something like a Osram night breaker and give them an external refurb. See link

  10. Hi Nathan,

I have owned a 2.0d sport estate and now own a 2.5v6 awd se saloon. The Sport is slightly firmer ride compared to the se but not to the extent of uncomfortable German marques (which I've also driven) I far prefer the awd as I personally think it's a far better handling and planted car on the road (I'm not really bothered about fuel economy) I posted another thread with a PDFs of the X type brochure 2005 model year that lists equipment levels and trims at that time, so you can see the difference between levels.

I think you need to have a look at a few cars close up and test drive as equipment levels and handling are a personal thing in my opinion.

I've had Mercedes, Audi and BMW company cars over many years with my last one being a 15 plate A6 Avant and I can quite honestly say the Xtype I have now beats them all hands down as a complete and satisfying drive (Jags have soul) , but again, that's just my opinion and the next guy might have a completely different view point.

just let me know if you have any particular questions re my X type experiences and I will do my best to answer them.

    regards

    Andrew
