Hi everyone I am Richard and have just got a 2006 S-Type 2.7 Diesel. Wasn't a planned buy but the owner was desperate to get shut of it as it has faults and he'd got sick of throwing money at it, and his local garages wouldn't touch it so he made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I'm an extremely enthusiastic amateur mechanic with, even if I say so myself a pretty good setup and the tools and equipment to do most tasks and am also used to completely stripping and rebuilding cars so I figured I'd give it a go. Plus as a UK national living in the Black Forest in Germany I felt somewhat honour bound to try to rescue the poor thing ;0) I usually work on older cars but actually work in software for a large auto manufacturer so figured it would also be a good opportunity to get to work on something more modern than usual.

So I thought I would use this as a journal of my new journey in the Jaaaaag. She is nothing short of a masterpiece, I’ve never driven anything like it, the engine is quiet but deadly, great mpg, everything works (mostly) and I’m very impressed. now for the mostly part. when I bought it I knew the air suspension fault was on there, luckily someone at work has a diagnostic tool and found it was the plausibility issue c2303 which should be the compressor. The ride heights are good in all corners although she will be sat for a few days now so hopefully will still be the case. Yesterday my key fob wouldn’t open the car and the alarm went off, didn’t know you start the car straight away to make sure it doesn’t, I only have 1 key. I took the fob to timpsons to have another battery put in, but the fob is corroded and probably glued in to keep it together, so it couldn’t be done. I have bought another shell with new fob, I’m thinking that I can programme the new fob which I read how to do, and move the key and chip onto the new shell. any ideas if that wouldn’t work, the chip and key are together on the top half of the key, so transplanting it onto the new shell should work. apart from those so far so good, the wife finally likes it but still thinks I’m having my mid life crisis.

Jaguar s type 18” BBS alloy wheels Pirelli tyres
N6 JMX replied to Nihal's topic in Jaguar Wheels / Tyres
You do know that you have posted these items for sale in a Jaguar General tab, which is a bit strange since there is a "Jaguar Marketplace" section further down the Forum. One more post in the General section and your post disappears from the headline view and I doubt anyone is going to look in a General tab for any items that might be for sale. Suggest you repost in the Marketplace section, where people would look. N6 JMX -
I put a new shifter box in The only way I can take the vehicle out of park is by hitting the silver button, I don’t know what it’s called but I have pictures for reference Refer to pic number 1 Then when I first took the console apart I realized that a sensor was unplugged which I believe could be the initial problem to why I can’t go into other gears without the silver button, is this supposed to hook up anywhere? Refer to pic number 2 I tried basic things like unplugging and plugging the battery, unplugging the dsc fuse and plugging it back in to maybe reset it after putting the new shifter in. All I know is I got back in my car and as I noticed the DSC system fault, ever since it wouldn’t let me shift gears. Any suggestions?

Hi Martin, welcome to the club. My XKR is 15 years old, 60,000 miles and still under the Jaguar manufacturers warranty. Only thing you know for certain is that a failure to renew at the annual subscription will guarantee a big bill, which in hindsight could just as easily have been covered by squirreling away the annual premium for the warranty package into a savings account. Just purchased a 2007 s-type, I have a problem with a hard brake pedal when coming to a stop, braking is great upto that point. As car is in drive I have to press very hard on brake to control car. Is this a similar problem

Hi Joseph, you need to get your car on diagnostic equipment to find out if there are any stored fault codes, then someone may be able to point you towards the appropriate cure. N6 JMX

Not as scary as it sounds, a Dedicated Ground Return is a negative cable from the alternator that runs back to the battery. Here I have bolted a tag to the alternator housing with the cable lug riveted. Cable is pure copper 8awg, and I used 5 meters. From the tag to behind the FR wheel liner then along the RH rocker cover, then behind the RR wheel liner above the exhaust to a convenient blind grommet into the boot. This is delivering a better charge and it is not surprising since the negative to the battery runs thru 3 meters of mild steel chassis after the engine. The DRG is also better for canbus due to lower signal interference.

My 2011 XF is leaking oil on the bottom of the timing chain cover. My mechanic recommends I replaced it but it’s a couple thousand pounds. He’s recommending I replaced the timing chain and tension mechanism at the same time which will break my cost to about 3500 pounds. That is just about what the car is worth.. should I repair it or get rid of the car?

Anyone remapped a 5.0 (naturally aspirated) XK?
Garry1127 replied to Garry1127's topic in Jaguar Technical
The remap will be in association with an Elite four pipe back box which supposedly releases another 20hp so overall I'm looking at a 40 - 50hp increase, but the main driver is looks (4 pipe) deeper noise and a slight increase in mpg which will increase the cars touring range, gaining a slightly sharper quicker car is a bonus. I prefer the XK to the XKR as it has a smoother ride, a lovely supple feel in corners (still with little roll) and has better ground clearance.
