Thinking about buying an XF. Advice please.
BiK3rZ replied to VeeJay's topic in New Members Introductions
Hi, what engine though? If it's 2.0d then i would stay away as in 7/10 cases its ticking bomb due to combination of chain guides bad design and waaay too long 2 year service intervals. They fixed it from 2019 onwards. If there's proof that it had oil changes every 5-8k miles then it should be fine. If it's 3.0d then there's nothing to worry about, much better engines. Gearboxes are bullet proof on jags. Nothing specific in 2017 xf to look out for other than usual checks when you buying car of this age. - Today

Good evening all. I am looking at a 2017 XF diesel with 66000 miles. Are there any specific issues I should be aware of? I made the mistake of buying a Ford Kuga Powershift with 58000 miles, and after another 5000 miles had to buy a replacement gearbox. I learned after the event from the Kuga owners club that it's a common recurring failure. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi all! I've been a long-time fan and admirer of Jaguar cars ever since i was 8 yrs old. The closest we came ot owning a Jag was when my father purchased a Daimler car ( when i was about 10 yrs old). I have always wanted a jaguar car and when i first saw the XK8 i was hooked on it, ever since the 1990's i have wanted one. For the past 15 years i have been driving a 1999 Audi A4, saving up for my *dream Jag* .Now i am 56 and finally can afford to purchase one. My occupation is an Osteopath. I would like to know from the members on here what i should be looking for. Ideally i wanted a model from 2010 onwards. All advice would be welcome Once I find the right car, I will be eternally grateful to everyone who helps me, and i will post pictures and if i can help anyone on this forum i will. Thank you . P.S. I have had to type in a Jag model to sign up, but i dont have the Jag yet but i intend to purchase one in the next 2 months. John

Hi David, advice on battery replacement is 5 years and it has to be suspect, despite what a battery test might say. A good catch as most folks ignore the advice and end up with dashboard lighting up light Blackpool in September. N6 JMX

I just had this problem on my 2007 XJ. I had been away for a while and when I got back the engine turned over and started fine. However the error "cannot apply park brake" was showing. I also had a check engine warning. The battery was old so I purchased and installed a new one before getting to diagnose the problems. I started the car and the brake error message had changed to "press foot brake and engage parking brake" . When I did that the problem resolved. Also the check engine light was no longer showing. Seems to me from this experience that the cars electronics are very sensitive to the battery voltage. Maybe I should replace the battery more often.

Hi Craig, welcome to the Forum. Appreciate that Ardnamurchan is probably a long way from anywhere (I am in Banchory in Aberdeenshire so know the feeling) but there is a Jaguar Gathering - The Scottish Jaguar Enthusiasts' Day - being held at the Riverside Museum in Glasgow on Saturday the 28th of June 2025. Over 100 Jaguars and their owners on the esplanade of the Riverside Museum from all over Scotland and further afield - even have some coming from "down south". There's more information further down the Forum pages under "Events", but you can also send me a PM with your email address and I can provide more information. N6 JMX -

Or this forum doesn't show who actually responded or reacted to my posts, all it says is 'somebody'... Can't see who reacted neither? Another thing, when want to see new post in the thread, it always shows first post in the thread insread if the last unread, regadless if thread has 1 or 20 pages. Is there a way to change it? Or it will change with me earning points, badges as I go?

Afternoon everyone. My first time here. I'm Craig, I live in Ardnamurchan and have bought my 1st Jag after much debate, a 1998 XK8 (X100). I'm keen to see if there are any other members close by. By way of background, I had a strong family connection to Jaguar and it's Competition Shop / Experimental Dept, as well as JDHT.
