I use the iCarSoft scanner and have to say in all the many scan tools I have owned over the years for professional garage use, now I am retired from the trade I bought an iCarSoft and quite honestly don't need any other scanner in the future. It is fully updatable and quick and intuitive to use (even for a beginner) but what is most important to me is the system reset and programming features it has built in - it is much more than a code reader for sure. I got the ten manufacturers setup which only costs a few more pounds than the one manufacturer licence. Handy if you wish to scan family or friends cars.

I know many f us on here have the i-Carsoft JLR scanner, yes it costs more than your average AliExpress/ebay/Temu "jack of all trades" scanner but is worth it for the bespoke options it provides. Opinions may vary on the exact brand but a dedicated scanner/OBD-II reader is the way to go for what you need/want.

Are the glow plugs working - it's a diesel? N6 JMX

Hi Lez, I agree with John above. My own Jaguar has been under warranty from new - Jaguar extended - and it is definitely a "peace of mind" thing. I reckon had I followed John's advice, I would be quid's in by now, but once you are in the warranty cycle, it is very difficult to step off it. N6 JMX

So, here we go... Ive researched this issue extensively & have come to the conclusion I need to buy a scanner, in paricular to re set the seat module to enable the seat backs to start working correctly, but Im now totaly confused as to which one. Is there anyone here - who has practical experience of these - can advise me what I need to get please ? Thanks.
-
Hi Lez. At that age you are probably going to struggle to get decent cover as most are limited to 10 years or 100k after which cover limit and items covered drops substantially. There are some that will go to 12 years and 120k but personally at 10yrs I would be going with your AA option and laying aside a couple of hundred a month in a savings account to "self insure" Good luck John

@Mr Singh Yes, I think you would need to change the CCF to enable the heated steering wheel. There seems to be a PARAM_CCF_STEERING_WHEEL_HEATED in the CCF and PARAM_CCF_EUCD_HEATED_STEERING_WHEEL in the EUCD CCF that would probably need enabling.

Have you tried jump starting? When you say it won't "start" does it turn over but fail to start or fails to turn over? If it turns over, is it sluggish? Regards John

2005 2.7D X200. After overnight, engine will not start unless ignition is switched on and wait 10 minutes. after this it starts immediately. I can switch off and restart immediately normally but the longer the engin is off, the longer I have to leave the ignition switched on before normal start. Any ideas would be appreciated

Hello. I am new to Jaguar and this club, living in North Hampshire. I have a 2017 XF 2.0 D, Recently need timing chain replacement including upgrade to prevent a recurrence. Fortunately covered by dealer warranty. Prior to negotiating the repair I funded a test £200 + vat) on a main dealer rig to know for sure if new chain was needed. Result was clear. Engine now sounds better and seems a bit more responsive. Sorry this may not be of any real help to you, but the failed test result came with dire warnings of possible outcomes if the job was not done. I expect you are aware of these. All the Best and Regards, Brian C

S Type security back up sounder and immobiliser

Regarding the SDD, I have one but although it finds my VIN and all the checks are green, when it tries to run the scan it reads the first 2 modules and then stalls at 13%. after about 5 minutes of trying it gives a notice that it is unable to retrieve the data. I can't figure out what the problem is. -

Hello Joe, thank you for your suggestions. Things have moved on a bit since I last posted and the situation as I see it now is that the longer that the engine is stopped, the harder it it to start. For instance I can stop the engine and it will restart immediately after just a few minutes but if I leave it for 20 minutes then it will need probably 5 tries to start it. If I leave it overnight then it will not start at all. but if I leave the ignition switched on (in tank pump running) for 10 minutes then it will start immediately. My thought was that perhaps there was a check valve that was not closing and pressure was leaking back to tank but now having read the workshop manual I see that there is a system that prevents you from running the fuel tank completely empty. At about 5 ltrs in the tank, it will inhibit starting until the tank is filled again. I am wondering if it is this system that is causing my problem. The funny thing is that no DTC are flagging up -

Hi Daniel, I have a 3.0 sovereign X type and I think good ones are getting quite hard to get hold of .Mine has the manual gearbox which makes it fun and quite fast to drive if the urge should strike. (Not that the need for speed hits me very often !).Lovely cars, welcome aboard.😀 - Earlier

Hi cheapest place for CATS dampers is usually Moss Europe. you could swap them, but obviously you will lose the active damping, also you will get regular cats damping faults on you dash and warning light, also when they go into fault, the dampers default to hard, so your new normal fronts ones will be usually medium to soft ride and the rear shocks will be stuck in hard, so you would have to replace all 4 shocks, then ideally need the cats coded out with software, or you could connect resistors to the connector at the top of the shock to fool it to think there still connected, this also may effect how the car handles. if you need any workshop manuals look here http://www.jagrepair.com/ cheers Joe

JOE-DOT-COM replied to plaviator's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
Hi You may have more than one fault from the sounds of it The Alarm and imobiliser are completely seperate, the beeping sound will more than like be the sounder, if its beeping, then its the active sounder, almost all car now at this age the battery backup in the sounder are usually no good and most times they discharge the main battery and cause regular nuisance alarms, this can be proven by just unplugging the active sounder, its in a metal box under the fuse box in the engine bay The non starting fault sounds like bad glow plugs, turning the key off and on, will restart the glow plug heaters, doing this multiple times will make it start far easier, odds are some of the 6 glow plugs have failed, glow plugs always become a problem this time of year as it get colder, there not needed when the temp is warmer. to get accurate fault codes and possible remedies on S-type you need to plug it into Jaguar IDS/SDD, SDD is whats compatible with yours and that will give you accurate fault codes if you need workshop manuals look here http://www.jagrepair.com/ Cheers Joe -
