And it’s the 4.2 v8 from 2007

Hey all, so I’m new on here and wanted to help out a non car enthusiast mate, (but he has owned a a jag XK from new, and has put 215,000 kms on it). I’m not a jag driver (M2 current ride) - but I do have a soft spot for F Types, and potentially thinking of switching to one in future. so I don’t have too much details yet, but essentially he’s having engine issues (causing a spark plug to fly out of the engine). Essentially he wants to keep the car (sentimental value) but I think the engines not being too reliable at mo. whats the best course of action? I suggested a full rebuild but I don’t know anything about the 4.2 litre v8s? Are they worth rebuilding and could they last another 100-200k with a proper rebuild? or could he find a low mileage engine transplant and where’s the best place to source one? OR is there another alternative I’m not think of (and no that’s doesn’t involve buying a new car) what cost could a complete rebuild be at? And who would be a reputable garage (ideally down south) to fix this.

Many thanks for your advice. Will follow it and report results. At 80 I am reluctant to travel to our nearest Jaguar repair garage, so as a retired C.Eng. I will have another go as I can't leave the car in any public place. Have temporarily covered the window with a plastic sheet but can only use lock without alarm -

Excellent, weather is looking fine. There will be Jaguar reserved parking at the Raemoir Garden Centre on Sunday morning. It will be on the left side of the car park as you come through the gate, turn left, left and left to park with the others. We will be in the café part if no owners milling around. N6 JMX

2009 3lt XF Drivers door window fully opened but wont close!
N6 JMX replied to LESABBS's topic in Jaguar Technical
Hi Leslie, that sounds like an unfortunate experience. Yes, it is possible to remove the door card - what you refer to as the inner door panel - but you will require the correct trim tools to give you the best chance of removing the card without damaging the fixings, which are generally quite brittle, so having replacements available before you start would be a good idea. Once you have removed the door card, which generally also involves "hidden screws", you should be faced with a clear plastic sheet, or membrane, which prevents moisture seeping into the cabin. You will need to cut carefully into this membrane in such a manner that you can replace it and secure it on completion of the work. The link below shows the mechanism you will find inside the door carcase and as you will see, there are several pieces that can "go wrong". If you are certain you can hear the motor operating when you make the switch in both directions, then it could be that the motor is "stalling out", which is what it is designed to do at the top and bottom extremities of its travel cycle. If that is the case, then there may be an obstruction to the glass path being caused by something within the mechanism having become detached - which could be obvious. Note if the link doesn't work correctly, you can search for "Jaguar Classic Parts" and simply follow the instructions to reach the information for the XF. Xf 2009 - 2015 (x250) / Door Glass And Channel-front | Jaguar Land Rover Classic Part Until you get into the door carcase, it is not possible to say what else you may find. If you are not comfortable accessing the inside of the door on your own, then a friendly body shop may be a good call to talk to. N6 JMX -

Hi Robert, it is always possible to increase the overall height of the seat base, but it will depend how mechanical you are or whether you have access to a fabrication capability since the solution is to increase the tilt mechanism by employing a wedge or suitable bracket between the rear of the seat and the tilt mechanism. I don't have access to the XJ to check, but there are multiple adjustments available on most premium electric seat mechanisms. It is possible to raise the entire seat base itself to be higher and then it is also the case that you can tilt upwards from the rear, making the total increase quite dramatic. Are you sure you have explored all of the current adjustments? N6 JMX

On Thursday 1st May (hottest day of the year so far), I opened the drivers side door window but found it would not close although I can hear the motor running both to open and close very briefly. Is it possible to remove the inner door panel to inspect the mechanism. With only 28,000 genuine miles on the clock from new, I can't think it is wear and tear. This is the first problem I have had in 10 years of ownership. Please advise.

The default position for the DCCV is open so if you lose the supply to it, the valve will be open. Everything you're describing says you still have air in the system. If you can get the back end on some ramps and then top the cooling system up at the expansion tank, refit the cap, run it up to temperature and then switch off, leave it overnight, that should help shift the air. Check the level the next day before running it and top up if needed. It can take several attempts at this to clear blocked air from the system.

So I flushed the radiator from both sides and changed the all of the coolant, without any changes. But when I tested it, I noticed that my heater inside doesn't work. Also, the radiator is so cool, that I can touch it whith my bare hand, even while the car is running at 239 degree F/ 115 C. But for some reason the hose going into the top of the radiator is hot. I downloaded a coolant diagram and the only thing I didn't checked yet is Dual Coolant control Valve, going to the inside heater and the Engine Oil cooler. I attach the diagram that I found to my Message. Do you haveany Ideas? Thank, LOXIT

I ran a quick check for fault codes today and one that shows up as a permanent error is "Windshield Misting sensor" Does anyone know what this is ? every works and I cant seem to find it in any parts search that i do online other than people suggest headlight or wiper sensors but both these functions are working fine. Thanks Ian

Brilliant! Thanks for that, she’s booked in for a battery swap on Weds. Hopefully that will mean I’ll be able to just enjoy the drive against and rack up the smiles per miles!! -
Hi Robert, there are 2 obvious answers to try. 1. Have you looked in the handbook wallet, typically there should be a security card with the various numbers and identifiers included. It is typically credit card sized. 2. Go back to the original selling dealership, or at least the dealer you purchased the car from. Failing those 2 options, you would need to visit a Jaguar dealer (if you can now find one) and have them unlock the security file for the TV. N6 JMX
