New member having just bought 2003 XKR 4.2 convertible. Had an XF in the past and treated myself to a future classic. Already frightened myself a couple of times when the supercharger kicked in and still think it has plenty of horses left under the bonnet.

Sometime my s type diesel frightens me when the second turbocharger cuts in when accelerating  ---   God knows how I would feel like with the supercharger!

Me in thick mode now, what is the difference between a turbocharger and a supercharger?

The experts will correct me, Trevor, if [and I probably am] wrong, but I think that,while both perform a similar function, the turbocharger uses exhaust gases to push air into the engine, and the supercharger is a mechanical unit that does the same but with more power.

 

The Merlin engine used on the Spitfire and Lancaster were supercharged, but I think that turbochargers were used more in diesel engines.

All that I know is when the XKR is in dynamic mode and the supercharger kicks in, it is well noisy !

Think my 2003 version only has 400 bhp but that's more than enough for now - limited top speed is 155 mph.

Apparently 2003 XKR uses belt-driven Eaton rotor-type supercharger with intercooling, with helical rotor gears for low noise and coated rotors for maximum efficiency ­- at the time both industry firsts on a production engine.

Northern delicacies, and black pudding [called pigs pudding in the Black country --  made from pigs blood and secret ingredients] is delicious especially with bacon, and Wet Nelly is left over fruit cake place in a dish with a splash or three of whisky or sherry on it, and weighted down and fed every day for a week until it has soaked up the drink, then it is able to be eaten.

I can understand why southerners live longer now , although they do eat jellied eels, which in all fairness sound sound just as disgusting . and the Devon lot eat seaweed !
