My name is Jai and I have just acquired my first Jag. Besides the fact that it's very comfy and a great drive, what makes me happy when I drive it is that its a sheep in wolfs clothing. I have just driven 196 miles and its returning 43 to the gallon presently.

A jaguar can be driven very sedately and look and feel like a big limousine.  It can also be driven quickly, and it should be occasionally, just to give the engine a bit of exercise.

 

I get over 40 mpg on long runs, and the best I have had on an eighty mile drive mostly on A roads was 49.2.

I don't think Jaguar owners should talk about MPG, makes us sound like other car drivers.

Most other car drivers think that Jaguars use  a high amount of fuel, and are there purely for the advantage of Shell, BP, ESSO, etc.

 

When the XE come out next year, some drivers will find out, that while the cars are very quick and luxurious, some of that Model will qualify for a nil road fund licence.

You're missing the point . If people worry about MPG they shouldn't have a car .

 

People say to me " I bet that doesn't do many MPG" my answer is  " If I worried about that, I wouldn't have bought it, would have bought a VW Golf diesel, or some other Dinky Toy "

 

And it really doesn't matter what other people think

I don't think people are worrying about mpg.  But it is always worth noting what the car consumes as that is often indicative of engine performance as well as driving style.

 

I always fill my car to the top when it is about three quarters empty, and reset the trip computer at the same time.

That is more weight to carry around if you fill it right up, less MPG.

 

Seldom bother about the trip computer apart from after the initial purchase of the car, or to see if their is any difference between normal and premium fuels .

 

The Aston Martin didn't do enough MPG to register, and their engines are not very efficient .

Good morning gentlemen, my goodness, some of you guys get up early!

 

I'm sure you'll remember that several years ago, there was a maxim which applied to tyre kickers looking at Rolls Royce cars;

"If you have to ask about fuel consumption, you can’t afford the car.”

Times are changing and now, when manufacturers of opulent cars subtly promote some models on the basis of surprising frugality, it’s understandable that fuel consumption has, once again, become an important criterion for many buyers.

That said, I fully appreciate Trevor’s point of view, you don’t buy a luxury Swiss watch because it’s any more accurate than something from a department store.

My S Type cost me less than various cars I’ve owned since the late ‘eighties. It’s not an ‘economy model’ so I squeeze in an extra visit to petrol forecourts each month, but the car remains a pleasure to own and drive.

Jaguar owners do get up early , something you will get used to and enjoy in time .

 

Don't take my views too seriously I'm only teasing most of the time , but it is surprising the back biting you get from some people just because you can afford a few things ( don't mean people on here ) .

 

You have what the wife calls a "proper Jag" , and at the moment she is pestering me to buy a XKR-S convertible , which isn't sensible as it rains more in Ilfracombe than it dies in Wales (it really does) .

 

This is the car she is badgering me over:, my XKR is less than two years old, but that's women for you!

Thank you for the welcome.

As we know, Quality, and the perception of what constitutes it, is subjective. I was driving a luxury hybrid prior to my acquiring the Jaguar and the reason I bought the brand without even test driving it was because I was looking for all round performance quality and everything I had read about the XF convinced me that it was the perfect blend.

Prior to the luxury hybrid, I drove a Porsche 911 Targa, a beautiful car in its class, but in my view, not a patch on the Jag, but then we are not comparing like for like, all I am doing is broadening out the point initially made by Trevor.

But frankly the fuel efficiency of the engine of a car is central to its quality in this day and age and I agree with Peter and StrayCat on this count, and, so it seems does JLR.

The XF is indeed a fab car. It was when the stealership lent me a XF (albeit a devils fuel one) whilst the Aston Martin was having one of it's frequent visits to the workshop that made my mind up my next car would be a Jag .

 

It came around a lot quicker than expected , The Aston was on it's holiday being repaired again at the stealership (transmission failure amongst numerous other things) when a woman drove in to the garage (in a Jag) and mangled it . She did me a huge favour !

The British Racing Green colour is the most unsafe on the road due to visibility problems [allegedly].  The success of BRM on the racetrack is because no one could see it coming up from behind.

 

That is one good reason to tell your wife.

 

Another good reason is that it is a Rag Top, and you definitely need it garaged when not in use.

 

That is the second good reason.

 

The third good reason is that the specification is not as good as the car you have got.

 

I had an Austin 1100 in that colour and apart from it breaking down and costing me money, I was ran into by the local butcher from Edale, when I was living in Derbyshire and he said that he hadn't seen me even though I was going at less than 30 mph, which proves my first point.
