Drivers window issue

Featured Replies

Hello

I have a fault with my drivers window when I take it down it goes down ok but then when I take it up it goes halfway up but shoots back down again eventually going up like the anti trap system is working but as far as I can see there is nothing trapped, looked in the manual for the resetting of the windows it doesn't seem to work, what's the way to reset the windows or as anybody had this problem before

Thanks ant

Cheers for the reply trev, I've tried that and still no good, the window goes up to the top and goes down, then the switch doesn't work at all only down, it won't go up, then i leave the car for 5 minutes with the window down, go back to it and it goes straight up perfect? I have looked on other sites and some have suggested there is a software update for this so need to ring the dealers and see what they say and go from there

Ant

Andrew,

It might sound silly, but is your battery in good order ? sometimes silly electrical things seem to happen when the battery is on the wane .

Why not try disconnecting the battery for ten minutes .

I have thought of that but it seems ok it starts ok, but will it affect is there anything special you have to do being as there's no key holes etc?

Ant

Andrew,

Not sure to be truthful , But the Jags seem to shut down various electrical things if there is a problem , so you can start the car . what keyholes do you mean ?

Yeah the cars starts perfect and no issues with any other electrical part, ignore me with the keyholes i was on about access back into the car but I would just leave the boot open and re connect the battery, might be worth a try but saying that it did this before a couple of months ago and I did the reset and it's been fine until now ?

Anthony,

It might be worth your while trying to borrow a new battery and see if that makes any difference, if it doesn't that's one thing you can rule out, if it does, that's your problem.

Thanks for your advice I'll give it a try and I'll let you know how I get on

try the disconnect battery for 10 minutes - this will fully re-boot the electronics and could solve ur problem - I have to do this every so often to get my stop-start to work again - software can be a right pain and a quick re-boot often solves everything :)

Hi,

I have a 09 XF 3.0 Premium and drivers window used to go up slowly then go down now suddenly it has stopped working altogether , u can hear it click as if to go up or down but nothing happens ?

  • Author

Maybe the window has come out the runners or the motors worn out , Mine wouldnt go up at all would only go down, turned out it was the window regulator, hope that helps

I took it to a garage yesterday and they got it working but said it needed a new motor as it is very noisey , I always thought the noise was from the rubbers against the glass maybe had got a bit hard , I think they had put some oil or something on the rubber trim as the glass was all smeared ?

Ray,

Sounds pricey, don't let a stealership put a new motor in for you, try an independent, or even get the bit yourself, have you tried Ebay, is it something like this ?

Hi all, new to the forum. Hope someone can help.

I have a 2009 XFS Portfolio and having just picked it back up from Heathrow long stay after a fortnight away I found that the drivers window won't open. I have tried resetting it (as per this forum) but it hasn't worked. I hear the clicking as I try to open and close it and the window tries to move but doesn't open. Any ideas?

Cheers,

Rob.

Thanks Peter,

Where would I apply the WD40? The window locks up like when it's gotten frozen overnight.

Cheers,

Rob.

Hi Rob,

Sometimes there is a little room via the window rubbers at either side of the glass - just squirt a little WD40 and see how it goes.

Other than that, you can take part of the door card off.  Not having an XF I couldn't be exact as to exactly where is the easiest.

Regards,
Peter.

Try with both palms each side of the window pulling it down while someone operates the switch

Thanks guys. Freed off using "Old Growlers" method and put a little WD on it for good measure.

Cheers,

Rob

Latest on this one. Drivers side window regulator cable snapped 10 days ago (there had been a buzzing when I was driving). £150 for a new one but was able to fit it myself. Lo and behold the passenger side went 2 days later. Another £150!!!

Hi I have a 09 xf, the driver side window has fallen down and won't come back up. I know a cable has snapped, but the problem is how can I get the window back up, just for a quick fix in the rain !!

Anyone  ?

Hi everyone.  I've got a 2009 xf and the two front windows stopped working.  I tried battery disconnect but that didn't work out.  It clicks when I press the button, but that all.  What do you think?
