Hello All. I am planning to buy a XJ6 serie 2 or 3. I do not have any experience with Jaguar.
What do you can warn me to take care during the acquisition? Is engine 2.8
reliable? How can I know the difference between 2.8 and 4.2 motors? Is it
visible? I am planning to use this car only on weekends and I was thinking in
one mechanical (not hidramatic).

What are the key points that I should check? I´d like to know if 2.8 motor has a
good performance or not.

Thanks a lot for your help and attention.

Welcome to the Club, Luiz.

I am not an expert but I can tell you that the Jaguar XJ is a very good, iconic car.

Personally I would go for the 4.2 Litre engine which was used by Jaguar into the 21st Century and was the power source for the S Type R and the XKR for years.

Just buy it, get in and enjoy the Jaguar experience

Regards

Peter.

Man im having the same problem. Im a proud owner of a 74 xj6L series 2 4.2L shes cherry too, but i know nithing about cars let alone a jaguar. However to kinda answer your question the vin number should b in the window/dashboard on the drivers side. And then i discovered a plate inside the drivers door, but unfortunately i cant read it is worn down and has over spray from a paint job i imagine it had at one point. I would liaf pictures but its not letting me. However so i kept looking thought maybe on the fire wall there should b aomething or on the engine. Nothing on the fire wall, but found a plate underneath what i think is the pumo for the wiper fluid sitting on the front driver fend inder the hood. Nope not it. Where the motor meets the trans there's some numbers, but i am guessing that those are part numbers but again im no mechanic. And the last think i seen before i called it a night last night was on the passenger side under the hood kinda on the fender theres another strip of numbers that match the numbers in the window and match the numbers under that pump i mentioned. Amd after 1 month of having her i still cant find the darn vin number. 😓 So if you sir find out where its at please shoot me a message and let me know if i find it im throwing a party for 1 and 2 I'm ginna jumo for joy. Its makes things easier then you have the vin to order oarts and so forth.

              Thank you

And happy hunting hooe you find it
