When not to use Cruise Control

Featured Replies

Hi

Thought I would mention this about a young lady using Cruise Control in Torrential Rain when the Car Acquaplaned and took off like an Aeroplane wrapping it's Self Round a Tree , almost in the Shape of a Horseshoe. Glad to say the young Lady was not seriously injured.

They say the Cruise Control shouldn't be used in Heavy Rain or in Icy Conditions.

But I'm sure all you Jag Drivers would know when not to use the aforementioned . ?

Regards

Tom

Tom,

I only use mine on motorways and duel carriageways , big roads, also is there are average speed limits.

My cruise control is adaptive, so brakes and accelerates when needed . It tends to accelerate rather gently and I've not had a problem yet .

"Young lady" and Cruise control" should tell you something (said purely for effect, I don't mean it) .

Thanks Peter for your comments also,

Thanks to Trevor

There was a member on another Forum who wondered, if the Driver takes ILL what should their Passenger do when the Cruise Control is on. With the X Type you can just Pull on the Handbrake.

Regards

Tom

Tom,

I would say "pray" . In all seriousness I don't know, and it is a pretty big "If" . The chances of that happening are so remote it's hardly worth worrying about.

That must be an issue, Tom.

I think that Cruise control doesn't work at low speeds, & with manual gearboxes it could go off if the speed dropped too much --  but I have never thought about it.  I think with automatics putting the car into lower gears --  easy with the J gate, but I have never used the modern style of gear change --- might slow the car down.

But I still don't know for sure.

Peter

Peter,

My cruise control doesn't work below 32MPH . also, it isn't any great sweat for the passenger to disable it if anything like that did happen .

ATB,

Trevor
