Hi all

New member here, I have just purchased an s type jag, wanted a jag like forever. Trouble is that the jag I bought has a gearbox problem. it keeps coming up with a gearbox fault feels jumpy.

the car is beautiful and has only done 75k

I have had the gearbox Oil changed, serviced and everything, yet still having a problem. can anyone advise what could be wrong and possible solutions

Thanks

Peter

I have researched your issue and there would appear that there were issues with the S type gearbox Lurching is mentioned quite a bit and reading on Jaguar were re-programming the module

Welcome to the Club, Peter.

I do get a mini lurch but only very occasionally.. I have found that other have the same problem but that it has been cured with a change of gearbox Oil.

I am a touch mystified.

Hopefully there will be a solution   ---    Kenny has looked around and has found an answer, so it could well be a trip to a good Jaguar specialist.

There is a topic on Jaguar owners lounge which could tell you the name of an independent specialist near you,

Regards,

Peter.

The "lurch" as it's known is a firmware problem that only applies to the later 6 speed ZF gearboxes, the earlier ford 'box is immune. I think the ZF box came in around 2002/2003 so I would suggest your problem lies elsewhere.

You might get more joy from a transmission specialist than a Jaguar one on this occasion

You are probably correct, Mike.

The problems with the gear box is the solenoids not a major job but first change Oil like you have , next thing I would try is wd40 the connects to the sensors on the box they do get dam in doesn't mean it's a mechanical problem just because it's jerky with an auto , wdeans water distplatment so it's good on old ecetrics , clean anyone which looks corroded,

Is your gear box missing 2nd and 5th ? What how low the revs go when changing from 1st and 4th if it's missing 2nd and 5th ecu is protecting the gear box and I would say there was a problem

I have heard of people disconnecting battery overnight because the jag ecu is a plug and play it adapts to his it's running ,, I havnt tried it my self but it isn't like modern cars you can disconect it with no problems of you have radio code

Only other thing in a faulty sensor

Hope this is a help good luck and keep us informed :)
