Just thought I'd say hello from Shropshire

Come from a family where my dad was involved in motorsport and worked in the motor industry most of his life. I followed suit and have been in the industry for the last 22 years.

Currently work mainly with Lexus on writing new vehicle training and currently formulating Pan European minimum dealer standards

Owned a varied list of cars including Dolomite Sprints, BMW 328i Sport, Golf V6 4 Motion, Alfa GTV V6, Westfield SEven, Grinnall Scorpion, Saab 9-5 Aero, Corrado G60 but next Saturday will see me picking up my first Jaguar - an S Type R

My dad always dreamed of running Jaguars and when he retired he treated himself to an XJ40 which was followed by an X300, he'd be chuffed to see me following in his footsteps at the grsnd old age of 47 - wife already joking about me wanting a pipe and slippers

Next Saturday cannot come soon enough but driving Lexus RC F's this week will help

Welcome to the club, Andrew.

The S type is a great car, and there are not many of the R models around.

Regards,

Peter.

Thanks Peter, did not realise until last night that there were fewer than 1300 S Type Rs ever produced for the UK, now I now why they are thin on the ground

Hi Andrew,

I tried to get detailed statistics of the S type production on all models.  A lot of them went to California where they loved them, although I did see one in Phoenix, Arizona.

They were made during the Ford ownership and were mostly designed in Detroit, and Ford were not very good at the paperwork, being more concerned with engineering.

Being a pensioner, I was more concerned with good mpg and an inexpensive road fund licence than I was for the exhilaration of the R model.  At the same time, my S Type 2.7D is no slouch with incredible acceleration with the s button pressed down and both turbochargers cutting in.

Regards,

Peter.

Collected her today and every bit as pristine as it had been described to me, even running on virtually new OE Continentals.

Pleasant surprises - the 'specialist' history in recent years is with Chiltern of Bovingdon who I believe are well respected and the mileage quoted in the advert (89,000) was incorrect, its actually 71,000

What I thought was a good price for the car has turned out to be an absolute bargain
