road tax and the dvla

Featured Replies

its been six weeks now waiting for a refund for £110 from the dvla they would not let you take that amount of time to pay for road tax anyone else having this problem

Trevor,

I had to wait longer than that in May when I sold my XJ Superpsort and got the XKR .

Sold the XKR under the new tax system ten days ago, haven't got a refund yet ( but to be fair not really expecting it this side of Christmas ) .

But I agree with you, if they can now take the money instantly, why can't they do the same with repayment ?

ATB,

Trevor (the old one)

Peter,

And why do they deal in cheques these days? means messing about going to the bank.

It's about time they put it all on the fuel anyhow

Trevor

peter you make my day lol

Trevor,

Peter is my favourite northerner !

ATB,

Trevor ( Hendrix is my real name by the way)

I get a cheque for £0.63 every month for a pension I got from a company in which I was a senior manager at the age of 27 in the early sixties when you could not transfer pensions. I was only in the pension scheme for 17 months before the works closed down. The bank is only 500 yards away, and the staff are great, know my name, and ask how I am doing.  The walk up gives me a bit of exercise, too!

trevor I agree they should put it on fuel but will the buggers will just nick the fuel and do damage doing it

Peter,

The only time I ever go into the bank (a mile away and a devil to park) is to ay in road tax refunds, I do all my banking online, and have not written a cheque for over three years .

I get plenty of excercise taking the wife's dog on a three mile walk every morning at 5-30 .

ATB,

Trevor

Trevor,

True about your comment about the fuel .

Another government scam is the one where you buy a new car with a decent engine in they charge a £1000 for the first years road tax .

that's a thing that gets to me some cars £400 to tax others nothing they all make holes in the road

Trevor,

Mine cost £500 a year, as did the XKR, and the XJ Supersport . They claim it's for emissions, but you could have a car with half the emissions of mine, but drive it a lot more. It is just an excuse to coin it in .

Diesels will be the next to take a hammering

ATB,

Trevor

Mine is less than half that Trevor in fact it is cheaper than the 1600 car I had previous to the Jag and so is the Insurance.

Stan,

Being in God's waiting room and living in the sticks makes my insurance cheap, but I don't really see why I should have to pay more road tax than a lot of other people who do more miles than me .

Putting it on the fuel would be the fairest way .

So being perverse I bought a car with a 6.3 litre engine .

ATB,

Trevor

In a big City such as Birmingham, even in what are described as "leafy suburbs" car insurance is high.  Fuel, however comes a bit cheaper with diesel being 119.9 pence a litre at my local forecourt.  Putting the Road fund on fuel is a solution, but still has its problems.

There could be more thefts from filling stations and also from cars and lorries.

I still feel that the big road users should bear the brunt of the cost.

Peter.

Peter,

I agree, big road users should bear the brunt .

You can have a small engined car and use it lots every day or a 5 litre XKR that just get used at weekends for a spin out .

Main difference is that the XKR would be £500 in road tax .

ATB,

Trevor

Peter,

just been out and petrol is 109.9p a litre here, the cheapest it's been since 1923 .

ATB,

Trevor

I have just filled up with Shell extra special vitro diesel at 127.9p a litre  ---  I am going to Scunthorpe tomorrow to attend the funeral of a former colleague   -- I expect to get circa 50 mpg.

Petrol locally is 114.9p a litre.

I will send you a few lbs of dehydrated water from Birmingham.  South Staffs is the cheapest in the country.  All you need to do is put it in a barrel and add rainwater.
