Opened my boot lid yesterday and found this 'Plunger' in the gutter underneath the boot lid spring.

I cannot see where it might have come from as there doesn't appear to be any position on the boot lid that it would fit.

I would be grateful if someone could tell what it is and where is should be positioned.

Thanks

A mystery to me, James.

But when we moved here 32 years ago I found a curious item in the garage, and took it to a car boot sale. A chap asked me if I knew what it was, so told a little pork, and said Yes.  He offered me a fiver for it and I asked him if he knew what it was and he said yes. I asked for tenner for it and he seemed delighted!

Someone will know, though.

Peter.

I have 2 in my boot, one on either side.  They appear to be a damper for when you close the boot - I will take a picture tomorrow and upload it.  I don't think the fact that it has fallen off will be too sinister, and they look easy to refit (I think from memory that they clip onto the boot lid arm).

Hi Trevor. yes the boot light does still work.

Paul, thanks - look forward to the photos

Many thanks for the photo's. It wasn't that obvious where the plunger went till I saw your photo's.

The offending article is back in place assisted with some seriously strong glue!!

The other one is nowhere to be seen so a trip to a scrappie might be on the cards

 Once again thank you

For anybody following this post, I created a new folder in the picture gallery showing where these things are fitted in my boot.  I haven't yet figured out how to add a picture to a post so that's my next challenge!
