Intermittent fault

Featured Replies

Hi, my 2006 x-type 2.2d has just developed an intermittent fault when driving.

The sat nav display and radio & mainbeam switch off then the battery light and airbag light come on as if something has reset.

I also here a relay clicking from the passenger fuse box around the same time. Once it starts it occurs often.

I have tried reading fault codes but none come up. Does anyone have any ideas where I should start looking?

Hi Darryl

It sounds to me that your battery  is about to go --A Jaguar starts to shut things down to save the

charge to start the engine ,so first thing I would do is to get it checked.

I had a problem for a week with door lock and lights coming on at odd times then one morning no start ==Battery dead==

Fitted new and everything perfect.??

Many Thanks gents, I will take the battery to be tested. I hope it will be as simple as that.

I think I read to buy the jag battery's, any truth in this

If you have to have a new battery get the heavy duty the one that fits the case

not a cheapy because it will last longer with out problems.??

Go to  Halfords and get the 15% discount + they are very helpful and will give  advice

for the best one.

Preferential choice I like Bosch Batteries then again thats my choice.

Hi Gents,

I dropped in a new Bosch battery from Halfords this morning. took the old girl on a long drive and I am still seeing the same issue.

any other ideas what it might be

Hi Darryl

Sorry to hear that it did'nt cure things --The next thing I think you should check is all  Earth wires .???

Because a bad earth could be the problem .??

I would also try to find out which relay is clicking because that is perhaps faulty or has a loose wire.???

Frank

Hi Darryl, being an electrical engineer I would normally stress that 80/90 per cent of electrical faults on DC circuitry would be down to the earthing although having read through the posts, I agree with Frank on this one. Locate the relay and ensure its changing over when voltage is applied to the coil.
