I reverse onto my drive and leave the car pointing up at the front by about 15 degrees. When it rains heavily the dreaded performance message illuminates until the engine has been at operating temp for 20 minutes or so. What am I drowning and how do I stop it permanently, so please no comments about parking it the other way....

Check in your boot around the battery for water ingress.

I'd try reversing it in the driveway just to see if that has any impact on the problem, it may just be coincidence.

The S type is prone to leaking into the boot and due to having a fuse box and relays in there it can be bad news!!

Welcome to the Club, Ian.

I am inclined to agree with Andy.  I keep a roll of tissue in the boot and stuff some under the battery just in case of ingress.

Regards,

Peter.
