Hi All.

Any help please?  My 2001 3ltr sport some time ago started coming up with Cruise not Available although it was available and engine light both would go out after a short run or a few starts,It recentley came on and has stayed on now,The car starts fine runs fine infact i have just returned from Belgium on approx 450mile round trip,But now the car don't want to rev over 3000 rpm and judders until you let it drop to below 3000rpm then alls well again apart from the warning lights,The car is a sat nav model with on board diagnostics which reports no errors,is this relevent?

                                                                                         Many Thanks John

It sounds like it is going into limp mode to protect the engine? You can get a fault reader and eml reset unit form ebay for around £20-00 just make sure it covers your model as some say it does yet it certainly does not (garages can charge around £40 just to tell you the fault) so not a bad investment and may mean you can resolve the issue at a sensible price......fingers crossed

Hi John

I'm thinking this is a petrol engine ???

I said this to someone else  but here goes I found this perhaps it will help you :-

One of the thing that will cause a cruise control fault is a loose vacuum hose ussually

on the breather hose coming from the valve cover in front to the throttle body.

I also found that if the engine light comes on the cruise control light comes on automaticly

So it could just be a engine problem .???

Frank

Can I suggest you download the software for free OBDII and purchase a 16 pin to USB lead widely available on Amazon and Flea Bay. OBD is a very good diagnosis software

Jim .i found it was sucking air on one of them covers that are on the intake manifold ,there are two one above the other,I undid the two bolts and the o rings look shot so i'll get new ones ,once i have done this will the engine management go out by it;s self or will i have to get it cleared?

John, I would imagine you will need to clear the engine management light, have you OBD11 software or similar? This will do it for you. It is free to download from the net just type into google "OBD11 free download" and a whole host of sites will pop up offering the opportunity. You will however need to purchase a lead to connect your car and laptop to each other, this again is widely available on both flea bay and amazon, just type in to google "16 pin to usb lead"
