Hello and thank you for allowing me to join your club....I have not as yet purchased a XF... However i have viewed 3 over the last few days and  would like any input from here to help myself 'buy' one of these cars..  My question is XF or XFS   3.0TD .. Also what should I be looking for when buying one ? The one's I have seen are 3.0td 64k 2 owner 2010(59) full history full MOT with 6 month warranty.A 3.0 td 2008 (58) 48k 2 owners full history 12 month MOT 3 month warranty. And lastly a 3.0 td s 65k 2010(59) 2 owners full history 12 month MOT 6 month warranty..All from main dealers .Many thanks for your help now and over the coming years ...Rob

Welcome to the club, Robert.

The XF is a good car, although I have rarely been in one.

I think that those who have one will be along to give you some advice.

My advice is buy a car from a main dealer and get it serviced by an independent.

Regards,

Peter.

welcome Robert

as peter has said the xf is a nice car to drive depend on which model you go for  i looked at most models as a returning jag owner before going for the face lift x type estate.

someone will be along to give you all the in/ outs the this model in a while so watch this space so to speak

welcome again Ron

Thank you for your replies,if possible i could do with a little more on what to look for as i go test drive one on Thursday next week...It is a 2009(59) 3.0d XF one owner with 38k on the clock...So any help or tips what to look out for would be greatfully app..Rob

rob look out for all the usual things when buying a second hand car. check the engine bay dip the oil stick check tyres ect  and please please buy an approved used from a jaguar dealer you get 2 years warranty. when buying an approved used car from jaguar dealers compared to 1 year from audi bmw &merc.  you can also do checks on the car before you buy. ask to see the service book, and see when it was last serviced by a jaguar dealer phone them up. ask for the service dept from the last main jag dealer on it. they will be able to tell you all recalls and history inc any repairs ect, but only if you find out by looking or asking who last serviced the car, if it turneds out to be full main dealer history write down the dealers name and call them prior to putting down your hard eard cash. do your checks. modern jaguar cars are fantastic  and built to take on the german s head on. but I will tell you of my expr I traded in my xk for a year old xj. got a photo of the vin no when at the dealership  as well as other photos. done my home work phoned an other dealer and gave the vin no of the car I was hoping to buy . they could tell me nothing about the car. I had to go back and ask to see the service book . turned out to be the same dealer but phoned them any way they could tell me all service and work done ect, jaguar is way behind the germans  in that dept my oldest son bought an A7 from a private dealer in preston, I phoned audi preston who could tell me every thing over the phone that the car had been bought from audi Newcastle and had last been serviced by audi Liverpool and what repairs ect had been done to the car as well as confiring the millage ect. so jaguar lag behind that lot. my new xj premium lux is the bees knees lol its  GOOD TO BE BACK

Thank you (old peter) and (jag2)... I will do as you have both suggested ...I must ask though 2 year warranty from a jag main dealer ?? that's not standard i take it...I have looked at 2 Jags at 2 main dealers ...Both only offered 6 months jag warranties????

Hi Robert,

Dealers have been offering various deals of late.  When I got my s type I got a 3 month warranty from Stratstone in Solihull.  A year later they wanted to sell me a second hand XF with a two year warranty, and a few months ago they were offering a 3 year warranty on "selected" cars.

You could find the best deal somewhere that will vary from some main dealers.

Having said that, my car has been brilliant with not a problem.

Peter.
