Not one for superlatives but...

A friend of mine invited me to his place for lunch today to ask my opinion on something, although he didn't elaborate.

Not having seen him since we were in the Royal Air Force together, nonetheless we have maintained close contact.

I arrived at his house in Luton and he asked me to venture an opinion on his new car, a Jaguar, because I seemed to be enthusiastic about the marque in general.

Parked round the back of his house was indeed, a Jaguar. As the Marks and Sparks advert goes - not just any Jaguar. He's only gone and acquired an XKR-S :D

I didn't expect that. Neither did I expect to be thrown the keys and told "Lunch will be in an hour".

I've heard powerful car engines before but the sound of that car starting up with me in the pilot's seat raised the hairs on my neck and had a somewhat surprising effect lower down as well

The beast is nothing short of feral. I have to say that I have never felt such power in a road-legal car before. I can only liken it to the acceleration of a Lightning down the runway.

I was literally shaking when I returned to his house some 45 minutes later. I was also considering whether my boxers would stand the strain

His mischievous grin reminded me of times past as I handed the keys back.

Lunch was pleasant as well but, oddly enough, although an experience I will never forget, The princess welcomed me aboard as she always does for my drive home and she put a smile on my face just as she always does. I couldn't live with the XKR-S, she isn't a car for today's UK roads but...

Thank you Nev, for allowing me to experience what must be automotive pornography.
